Hi ya'll!
I'm applying for UCSF 2011 MSN program ACHIN specialty. I know that the MEPN programs are VERY competitive--does anyone know how the MSN programs compare?
How many of you are applying? What have you done to prepare yourself? Have you heard anything about it?
Hopefully we can get some good discussions going and learn a lot from each other here =D

Im thinking of applying to UCSF too- the PMHNP program as well. And, I've just been getting my essays together and brainstorming. It's kind of driving me crazy. I guess it's hard to ever feel like I am good enough- or my application is strong enough. But, I guess I should let them look at it before I judge too quickly.
I'm also looking at University of Washington, University of Colorado, UPenn, and UVA. I think I'll end up applying to 4 or so programs depending on how much I can get together and if I hear back early from some.
What have I been doing to prepare? I've emailed a few schools, talked with people in admissions and tried to make my name known. Not sure if that helps but, I figure it can't hurt. I've asked to speak with current students at a few schools.
My down side I worry about is that I haven't worked as a psych nurse. I graduated a little over a year ago and started working on a neuroscience ward because I wanted to get some medical experience first. Not sure if they want me to make the switch before applying? But, I guess time will tell.
I have a okay GPA. It isn't perfect but, I don't think it's low enough where it will count me out of the race. I have a good resume and have worked in a clinic in africa for a few summers. But, Im struggling with the essays. and I KNOW that I need to nail them to get into some of these schools.
I've tried to get in the routine of looking at the essays once every few days and just writing what comes out. and now im just left with too many pages and no plot. so essays is my weakness. hopefully it all comes together.
how are you preparing?
So did any straight MSN applicants hear back? Mine has said "Under review" for the longest time. MEPN's already got their responses and acceptance but I guess we're filling in on whats left over. There doesnt seem to be a big crowd here who already have their RN license and are trying to go back in.

I just heard on Monday from a coworker that she got an e-mail of acceptance.
Applied to the FNP program and haven't heard anything yet. Says Under Review for status still. On the edge of my seat now...

Hi All -
I also applied for the 2011 fall program FNP specialty. As with most of you, my application status reads "under review." I have 11 years of RN experience and a 4.0 GPA, so fear not, grades and years of experience do not guarantee a spot. Best to all. Hoping we all hear news, either way, soon.
Yes, it would be great to hear from other traditional UCSF MSN applicants.
I am wondering why UCSF takes so many MEPN students and so few traditional MSN students. It simply does not make much sense to me? Does anyone know?
Cheers!

Wondering if your friend is a FNP applicant?
My application also still says "under review" for FNP specialty. Maybe they send notices at different times for different specialties? Hopefully we will all hear soon! Good luck everyone
Also, does anyone know if there anything on allnurses similar to grad cafe results? Other disciplines share tons of acceptances/rejections on grad cafe, but there is hardly any posts for nursing. Its a great tool and I wish more people would post! http://www.thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=nursing
Is your friend, who received acceptance email, a FNP applicant?
