UCSF 2011 MSN Hopefuls
Got a call saying I was 3rd on the wait list for the FNP program a few days ago... The wait goes on.

UCSF 2011 MSN Hopefuls
Yes. That is why it made me so anxious. I heard from the school yesterday that they will be sending out "decisions" over the next week. No idea if more people may still get acceptances or not.

I just heard on Monday from a coworker that she got an e-mail of acceptance. Applied to the FNP program and haven't heard anything yet. Says Under Review for status still. On the edge of my seat now...

New Grads Who Are Having Trouble Finding A Job
There are two things I wish I would have started doing immediately after I graduated. First, I wish I would have started going to the nurse managers where I wanted to work and handing them my resume directly. This seems to produce interest in a way that apps do not. Second, I should have started volunteering somewhere immediately. I volunteer in a free clinic as an RN now. Finally, I'll second what was said above about connections. Get a preceptorship where you want to work. It really does matter. Get to know the nurse managers!

Samuel Merritt ABSN - San Mateo June 09
Just be prepared for them to do something ridiculous like compress your Maternity class from 6 weeks to 3 and then act as if that was fair and an adequate exposure to the material. It isn't that you won't be well prepared, it is just that you have to be ready to advocate for yourself and your class. The administration isn't necessarily going to look out for you in ways you assume they should.

I know that I, and many of my classmates, could not give SMC a whole hearted endorsement. The incompetence of the administration is constant and you should not expect to get anything unless you advocate hard for it. In their defense they have improved the program significantly according to previous classes. In general the instructors were good, although I can't forgive them for a couple of the people they foisted on us. Best of all were my classmates. The people in the ABSN program were smart, fun, and there to learn. I think that the one year program is tough, but reasonable. I can't say how it stacks up to the CCs, but my impression is that of the ABSN programs it is one of the worst run. Jobs in the bay area are also hard to come by. Half of my class still does not have a job despite months of looking. This is a new development as of the last 6 months. UCSF and some other hospitals canceled their new grad programs altogether this spring. Hopefully the market will improve again, but there is no shortage of new grads here. I recently dropped off my resume where 150 people had applied for 10 openings that weren't advertised. A friend was part of a pool of 1000 people applying for 15 advertised positions.

Looking for a TNCC 6th ed. Care to sell yours?
No doubt it is a good reference. If I could find one online for sale I would buy it. Any suggestions?

Looking for a TNCC 6th ed. Care to sell yours?
Thanks. I am really looking for a 6th edition. However, I'm wondering how different they are? Anyone seen them both?

Looking for a TNCC 6th ed. Care to sell yours?
I'm going to have some down time to study after graduating and unfortunately left my copy on bart. Hopefully it is keeping the cell phone that I left on bart company. If you want to sell me your TNCC manual I would like to buy it. Thanks, Pete

TNCC and other certs. Which are worthwhile?
Thanks for the advice. The CEN sounds like a great idea but perhaps requires a bit more experience/knowledge to pass. It sounds like the TNCC is a good course for building skills but CEN might impact employability more.

TNCC and other certs. Which are worthwhile?
I'm almost out of nursing school and looking at trying to make myself as atractive as possible for a job in the ED. I learned about TNCC and was looking into it, but found that none of the nurses at the ED where I am preceptoring have it. Apparently it isn't required and there is no benefit to getting it. I was wondering what the deal is with these certifications? Is it strictly a hospital by hospital deal or are there regions that use one certification over another like the sat and act(?). ACLS and PALS seem to be universally required, but I'm wondering what the deal is beyond that. SF Bay area knowledge is particularly welcome. Thx.
