A place for individuals applying to the UCSF 2018 MEPN program to contact each other, share information, support each other, and provide advice.

I called UCSF and was told that after March 1st (deadline to accept) we should be receiving emails with information on next steps.

I was in the am too! Not sure if we met. I was so nervous! I will search facebook.

Hello! Congratulations everyone. I am deciding right now between Yale's GEPN and UCSF's MEPN for CNM/WHNP- I would appreciate any information that you can offer about the pros/cons of each program.

thank you!

Hey all, I'm a current MEPN - FNP specialty. When I was applying, I found it so helpful to chat with current MEPNs about the program, so I thought I'd offer up the same. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. I'm also open to meeting up for coffee etc. during interview time. Good luck! I'm sure you will all do great.

Hi! I'd love to chat- how can I get in contact with you?

Hello there! I am applying to the UCSF MEPN program for psychiatry this Fall and I was wondering if you might be able to tell me about the volunteer experience you had before applying? I'm afraid that my volunteering experience isn't quite what they are looking for and I'm curious about where to volunteer at to gain experience with psyche NPs. Thank you!!

@Darkyoga, where are you volunteering at right now? I got accepted into the 2018 Psychiatric cohort. I have been working full at an Acute Diversion Unit for the past 3 years. I'd suggest working or volunteering in a psychiatric hospital/clinic or a mental health facility where you can get exposure on what NPs do. Good luck.

Thank you @Nyandika! I am currently volunteering at STRUT which handles a few clients with substance abuse issues but mostly focuses on the sexual health for MSM. I really love the program but I've been afraid it isn't focused enough on psychiatric care. I'm going to look into other opportunities but I wasn't sure what organizations to focus on. One other question I was curious about is how many slots do they have for Psychiatric NP's through MEPN? Did most everyone have a 4.0 in their prereqs? Thanks for your response!

I think it would be great to have exposure to psychiatrists or Psychiatric NPs and if you have them in your current job then that should be good enough. However, additional volunteer hours say once a week to a psychiatric clinic or hospital would make you application even stronger. For the prerequisites, I don't think they all have to be 4.0. At least I had some Bs in certain classes but again that's just for me. Good grades and some experience in the Psychiatric filed would make you a strong candidate for sure.

Thank you so much @Nyandika! Much appreciated!

Hey there! Just curious- which did you end up going with?

Hello! Does anyone happen to know when people on the waiting list typically get updates? I know acceptances/declination were to be turned in last week.

Thank you!
