Hi,
Is there anyone lurking who is planning to apply to the 2011 program?
I have spent the last 12 years in financial marketing/communications and am excited to try and change paths into nursing. I am currently taking my prerequisite courses at city college- stats and anatomy/physiology- and going in for the GRE Saturday. I'm volunteering at a children's hospital, which is causing me to consider the pediatric nurse practitioner track... I know UCSF is very competitive and it's a long-shot for someone like me to get in, but I feel like I have to try! If it doesn't happen next year, then I'll just keep building my volunteer experience and re-apply. Also on my mind is that if for some miracle I were to get in how I would pay for it.
But enough about me... what are some other candidates' takes on preperation, interests, anxieties, etc?

I'm dying as we speak! It's really frustrating because UCSF is most people's 1st choice, and they tell us last out of all of the schools. I have offers from a few other schools right now, all of which want me to tell them my decision before UCSF even tells me of theirs! I'm thinking I may just end up putting a deposit down somewhere else and losing it if UCSF comes back and admits me. Hate to lose the money, but you got to do what you got to do!
My take on it is that they let us know that sometime in April is the notification date to keep us all from calling and writing beginning the first of March! I wouldn't be surprised if they notify us mid-March, along with the rest of the schools.
I serve on the board of a private middle school, and we have a great deal of pressure from other administrators to notify our applicants at the same time as similar schools with similar programs. Otherwise no one can be sure what their numbers are for the next year until the last school has announced their acceptances. I am guessing that UCSF is in the same boat.
I give myself a very low chance of getting in because I didn't do well in the interview... I wish that all of you are accepted to your first choice schools! Good luck!!

Don't think like that! The UCSF interview was by far the toughest I had, and I had 5 or 6. They know they are the best, and I think part of the interview process is gauging people's personalities, testing them, and drilling into the interviewees how demanding and tough the program is - all to make sure UCSF selects the ideal candidates, those that can truly handle the challenges the program (and a career in nursing) will throw at them.
From my other interviews, I expected this to be conversational and friendly, but it was much more business-like. Again, I think this has to do with the fact that they are the best, and they don't have to try to win interviewees over like other schools do - we have to win them over. So try not to stress about interview performance - I honestly think it was purposefully tough

Hi folks,
I saw someone say that s/he thought a March notification was possible. I would love that! However, I did just want to point out that the 2010 MEPNs didn't find out until very late April and possibly even May!
I wanted to go ahead and get that out there so that folks don't freak out if a letter hasn't come by mid-April (but of course, if you're like me, you'll probably be freaking out anyway!)

Hi Corazon-
Are the folks you're mentioning from last year that found out so late folks that were waitlisted? I've heard that waitlisted folks have sometimes heard as late as a week before the program starts, but I didn't think admitted students would be waiting into late April or May.

Veggies - My interview was 1/28 in the afternoon. You're very brave for only applying to UCSF!
Emoore - This is definitely the most difficult interview I have faced also, which I guess is expected since it's UCSF. But they could at least try to make us feel comfortable! My interviewers also pretty much went on to the next question without commenting, but sometimes they said "Okay, thank you", which I'm not really sure what to make of.
I am so glad I posted my interview concerns since others had the same experience(s). At least I know it isn't just me =). I also had no sense of how the interview went on UCSF's end, which is so frustrating! I think it went well, but it's hard to tell when you get no feedback. My interviewer gave me her card in the end and told me to call or email if I think of any questions later but I'm sure they do that to everyone.
I'm so thankful to have this forum to exchange experiences and ideas with other MEPN hopefuls. Best of luck to all
