UCSF Medical Center New Grad Residency 2019

Nurses Job Hunt

Updated:   Published

UCSF hasn’t updated their RN training program page yet. Applications are rumored to be opening sometime in the next month or two. We can all keep eachother updated. What units are you all applying to?

@The_Salty_Cat I saw that too..I didn't think we needed it and that we could get cert within 6 months or something

That seems like a mistake because how are we, as nursing students, supposed to already have one? ...

I have no idea. I want to apply to CVCU but don't have the ACLS and don't want that to automatically disqualify me...

Can you only apply for one Residency posting?

You can apply to however many you would like! They do not limit how many units you can apply to

I don't think it would hurt to attach a cover letter to the resume as a PDF (at least I hope it doesn't ?).

Does anyone know who we should address the cover letter to or what address to use? I've been digging around linkedin and the UCSF website and can't find any info!

Are they requiring Active American Heart Association ACLS certification right now for their acute care postings?

I didn't see that it was required for all postings, except for the Cardiac ICU.

I graduated in December and got mine before graduation. I did my capstone in the CICU, and my patient coded and eventually died my very first shift. I would've definitely been more prepared/helpful/knowledgeable had I taken ACLS first before this. I think it's required because of the high acuity, so all nurses are expected to know what to do in the event of a cardiovascular emergency, even from the very first day, just in case.

Oh! I didn't think people who graduated months ago were also applying. That makes sense, thank you! I'm doing my senior preceptorship in the CICU right now. Did you see that they're requiring us to take off all the apostrophes on the resume portion? I'm confused because the hospitals I did my rotations at have apostrophes in the name. Does that mean they're scanning our resumes in and not even looking at them?

Where did you see this about apostrophes? I haven’t submitted my application because I am still toying with the fact that I dont know if I can submit my resume, cover letter, and letters of recommendation when it only tells me to upload a resume. ??‍♀️??‍♀️??‍♀️

Anyone else having trouble uploading their resume? Mine says "thank you" and when I click "next", it asks to upload my resume again.

anyone know if it's just references or the actual letters of rec??

Even as a nursing student if there’s a certain area you are interested in obtaining your certifications is always a great idea. This posting is available for people who have graduated within the past year so keep that in mind when applying and whether or not you have your certifications. It most certainly doesn’t disqualify you, but they do like people who take the initiative to get skilled and educated in that area (ACLS, NRP, STABLE, PALS etc) my entire cohort got tons of certifications prior our last semester
