Hello! I know it's a little early, but I just wanted to start a thread for UCSD's New Grad Nurse Residency program that's set to start in November 2023. It looks like there is going to be a webinar on June 7th, and applications will start on (or after) June 16th.

I'm on the same boat as you. I'm going with the flow ??♀️ the end decision would depend on which unit ucsd will offer or if we even get any interviews or call from them, LOL.

I always accept the offer given (if it's wanted) but be transparent with hr or the manager. I know people who have extended their offer deadline. Just do what's best for you and your goals! These units know/are used to people declining after accepting. It's a thing

Im conflicted about what to choose "dream unit" or "dream hospital". I got an offer for my "dream unit" in a hospital that I've never been at (the new grad program has really good reputation tho, I've never actually been there). However, I'm still waiting for my "dream hospital" to call me, but I know that they also might not get me the unit that I want, so IDK ... any advice ?

Oooo that's tough but a great position to be in. I empathize with your decision. You have to see what means more to you and your goals. What do you hope to learn or achieve at each option?
Keep in mind after one year you can always transfer to your dream hospital (it's actually way easier to post new grad) but you can't always get your dream unit. Would it be possible to ask for a tour of the unit or reach out to RN's on the unit via LinkedIn to see the vibe/culture? Usually managers are open to it. Plus reputation can be a positive but also can be invalid, depends on who looks at it.
Last question, does your dream hospital have your dream unit? I would be sad if you loose the good option at hand, especially when it comes to getting the unit you want (doesn't happen that often). I would accept and if it's not the vibe while waiting for a response from ucsd, you can always move. So many new grads leave their program for a place that is a better fit. Don't be afraid to trust your gut!
OK mom moment is over LOL! Hope this helps. Sending you good vibes! ?

Thank you so much for your insight! It was very very helpful ❤️

I did! It was part of my portfolio/just pictures of volunteer work. But I heard managers don't really care they just want to see your clinical experience

I think so! Each unit is different plus they are just onboarding some new grads on the units soon so it's a busy time
