Members are discussing the impact of a hiring freeze at UCSD on the new grad program, with conflicting information about whether it is affected or not. Some members report receiving notifications about the cancellation of the August 2025 cohort, while others remain hopeful and positive despite the uncertainty. There is also mention of schools being informed before candidates, adding to the confusion surrounding the situation.
Hello. Starting a thread for those applying to the August cohort. The dates for the upcoming webinar should be posted soon.
I will be graduating with my BSN June 2025. Former UCSD employee.

I work at UCSF and understood that new grad wasn't supposed to be affected for UC systems. not sure if anyone has received a similar message! I got an email from UCSD around two weeks ago saying my application was forwarded to the hiring manager. anyone have any thoughts ?
Not sure about UCs as a whole, but UCSD is cancelling their August cohort for the new grad program. They've been notifying various nursing schools etc. about the cancellation today.

UCSD notified my school that they will be canceling the August 2025 cohort and will contact those who applied shortly. UCSF updated on their website that they will not be having a Fall 2025 cohort. It's tough out here.
No official communication. Patient facing career positions do not get affected by the freeze. New grad RN program is considered a facing position.
It seems odd that they would notify schools when this application process ended weeks ago, and that they wouldn't notify the candidates that were contacted letting them know that they met requirements to move on. I like to stay positive and keep praying that those that were contacted get to move on 🙂

They just started notifying the schools today. Managers were meeting up last week to discuss the new grad program and I guess this was what was decided. HR plans on notifying candidates soon, but who knows when that will actually happen.

Yeah. I went through a couple of the post from other UC with people that started the rumor last week and also some that said the same about UCLA, yet my coworker just got a call for an interview today. Choosing to remain positive 🙂

uCSD had an update and it sounds like they might be cancelling the new grad residency for August because of funding. The freeze is in place and it does affect the new grad positions. Confirmed by upper management today.
When you say upper management that this mean the CMO? CEO? HR? Specific unit? Just curious as I happen to be vested at UC and know the system well, literally have dozens of friends in both inpatient and outpatient setting, this is how I know that the freeze does not affect the new grad program 🙂
Also, It just seems odd that schools are involved before the actual candidates. My school has no relationship to UC so there's no way for me to get such formal notice. So I guess I'll wait like the rest of the candidates that were referred, I mean it is a huge bummer if the rumors are true, and believe me I will update the threat as soon as I know more, but as stated, I'm choosing to remain positive.

Here's the notice, so yeah it's official for UCSD at least.
