Hello,
Just wondering if anyone was enrolled or a graduate of UCONN's Mbein program? I was hoping to gain some first hand knowledge from students in the program. I'm considering changing careers and I was interested in the possibly interested in the program.
Thanks any information would be appreciated!
i am going to apply to this program probably in june (to get my place as pp recommended). however, i have a few questions, maybe you can help me. will they accept you while you are taking the pre-reqs or do you they have to done before they will review your application. i was hoping to wait to take genetics until i was accepted since i won't need it for any other programs i will be applying to. also, i got my bachelors at UCONN, do they give preference for that?
I'm not sure about the preference of UCONN students, but You would have to take the Genetics, Micro, Bio, Anatomy & Physiology I&II, Chemistry and a research course before your file will become complete. I got a B- in Chem, Bio and Micro and they are making me CLEP them because I didn't get a B. Let me know if you have any more questions.
These posts have been really helpful...my biggest hurdle is psychological in that I've been working in marketing/corporate roles since I graduated six years ago and that I don't have the right background and that my expectations may be off. Are there any students in the program who come from non-meidcal backgrounds?
Also, I have to take genetics and chemistry does anyone recommend a school that offers the courses, I think I'd prefer a community college...I have to get them in before August I think most of the community colleges offer summer sessions, correct?
Thanks for all the information its been really helpful. I am looking into Saint Joes, SCSU, and Fairfield but if I could get into UCONNs the program would start sooner!
Hi... I took Chemistry last summer at Gateway Community College. It was an intense 4-5 weeks, class every night and an exam a week, but in the end it's worth it. There's no time to forget anything because you're constantly using it! Also, I'm not from a science/med background either ... am making the transition from publishing hopefully into an RN program at one of the community colleges.
Best of luck!
I graduated from the Storrs MbEIN program in Dec. 2008 and would be happy to answer questions. To answer some previous posts, I'm not sure if there is a preference for UConn students, but probably 3/4 of my class went to UConn undergrad. Also, most of us didn't have medical backgrounds. We had a few students in their 40s and 50s that all did very well in the program.
Overall, I am happy with my experience. I had some very good clinical instruction and some great professors in the classroom too. If possible, you'll be a lot happier if you don't work. I had to work about 20 hours/week during the program and was much more stressed than my non-working classmates. I still was able to do well academically though.
Good luck to all of you!
hello, ive been reading the thread.I am also applying for the MBEIN program and is starting my pre reqs this summer. I do not have a medical background and has worked in corporate as well in another field.Ive been away from school for more than 10 years so it will be challenging but im up for the challenge. Im worried about the B but im going to take it one day at a time.
For the lady who just graduated in the program. After the 1 year you can already take your NCLEX or board exam right? Do you need to pass the board exam before you can continue with the masters program? thanks for the guidance.
I thought I'd jump in to say hi since this thread has sooo hit home with me. I'm starting prereqs this summer at NVCC. I have three kids under nine and am trying to figure out if I should stay with the community college and get an ADN and later bridge. Or should I apply to the Mbein. I graduated with a BA seventeen years ago and genetics was the only prereq I had - but it's too old!
If anyone has any advice on which route to take, I would appreciate it. I'm torn between getting the ADN and then applying to UCONNS RN to Masters program or just applying to UCONNs Mbein.
StudyinginCt, if you don't mind - are you doing clinicals in the Wtby area or is that choice not up to you?
HI
This question is to PinkPeony7, I wanted to ask where you took your Genetics class. The admission in Uconn suggested an online class in Fullerton. Im kinda confuse which one to take is it the BIO 276- Genetics and Evolution? or the BIO 109 Genetics and Biotechnology. Hope you can help me figure this out. I need to register for fall so i can take my spot already. Thank you for your help
