UCONN MEIN 2012-2013
Hi, I applied to the 2013 class but I wasn't able to finish all the pre-reqs so I was wait listed for 2013 but 2014 is actually a better start date for me so I'm just happy that I don't have to re-apply. I was just wondering, I'm taking an online genetics class and really struggling, did anyone else have a hard time with the genetics pre-req? This question is for students currently in the program...I know the program is very time consuming but I was wondering if there were any students with children? I have a young son and just wanted to see what peoples thoughts were on managing your time in the MEIN program with a young family? Thanks!

Need advice from recent MEIN grad
Thanks for all of this valuable information!! I'm in the process of putting my application together and I still have two pre-reqs to complete. I really like that you can complete the program in one year but with family and financial commitments it's a lot to take on. When I went to the info-session they made it seem like they prepare students well to sit for the NCLEX but if they aren't teaching a lot of pharmacology that makes me wonder?

Would you mind sharing more about why you the program isn't really what you thought it would be? Is it just because the academic portion isn't as robust as you expected? Thank you for the feedback you're sharing it's really helpful to get the perspective of a current student!

UConn MEIN - Correct Chemistry pre-req?
Hello, I ran into the same problem. I was planning on registering for Chem 111 at Capital Community College but when I went to register they told me that the UCONN program might require Chem 121. I emailed UCONN to see if Chem 111 would be accepted but never heard back. Did you hear back from them that Chem 111 would be okay?

I'm considering applying to the program this year. Would you mind sharing how much time you need to spend studying and completing assignments outside of class and clinical hours?

UCONN Mbein
Thank you jrinct...sounds like a good option for me. When will you start the community college program?

UCONN Mbein
These posts have been really helpful...my biggest hurdle is psychological in that I've been working in marketing/corporate roles since I graduated six years ago and that I don't have the right background and that my expectations may be off. Are there any students in the program who come from non-meidcal backgrounds? Also, I have to take genetics and chemistry does anyone recommend a school that offers the courses, I think I'd prefer a community college...I have to get them in before August I think most of the community colleges offer summer sessions, correct? Thanks for all the information its been really helpful. I am looking into Saint Joes, SCSU, and Fairfield but if I could get into UCONNs the program would start sooner!

UCONN Mbein
Thanks! So once you have all the requirements is your portfolio reviewed? Do you know if the program is very competitive? I still need to take care of the chemistry and genetics requirements.

UCONN Mbein
Hello, Just wondering if anyone was enrolled or a graduate of UCONN's Mbein program? I was hoping to gain some first hand knowledge from students in the program. I'm considering changing careers and I was interested in the possibly interested in the program. Thanks any information would be appreciated!

ACE program at SCSU
Hey Scott, I applied to the program and I'm pretty sure this is the first year the program will be up and running. Did you apply? I am hoping to hear back either way next week. There are a lot of pre and co-requisites for the program though so I'm trying to work out how I would complete them all.

Boston Nursing Schools
Hi Cheryl, I'm from Boston and I've been looking at schools in the area as well. Here's the lowdown........Mass General Hospital has an institute for health professions which offers direct-entry programs for non-nursing bach students...BC, Simmons, Regis and Northesastern all have similar programs. Curry College has a 2nd Bach program and I think its Mass School of Pharmacy just started a program this year. UMASS Medical School in Worcester and UNH also have direct-entry programs, both shools are about an hour drive from Boston. Also UMASS Boston and Salem State College have well recognized traditional undergrad nursing programs. For an ASN try Lawrence Memorial School of Nursing and Bunker Hill Community College. Good Luck!

New fall grad entry students
Hi! Congratulations to all of you, you must be thrilled. I am in the process of applying to masters entry programs and I am actually applying to all the programs you are about to begin. Any advice to someone starting the application process? I'm also applying to one 2nd bachelors program at UMASS Amherst. Any thoughts on 2nd Bachelors vs. Direct Entry? Well you are all making me very excited with your stethescope, scrubs discussion, best of luck to all of you, I can't wait to follow in your footsteps!
