UCLA Summer 2017 RN New Grad Residency

Published

UCLAs application for their Summer 2017 New Graduate Residency program opened this weekend so figured I'd start the forum where we could all converse, update and support each other through the LONG and stressful process.

STAFF UPDATE

Tell us about UCLA by visiting University of California (UCLA) School of Nursing | Peer Reviews.

Hey SlimSaydee,

I go to Ohio State, 3.68 GPA, president of my school's NSNA chapter, worked as a PCA in the hospital for 2.5 years, I'm in Sigma Theta Tau, senior practicum was in Trauma ICU, and then just lots of volunteering.

I actually just received an email for an interview in the Neuro Trauma ICU, but recently accepted a SICU position here in Columbus so I will have to turn it down.

Best of luck to you!

I officially received an invitation to interview for the perinatal unit (my first choice)! I applied on 3/7, my status changed to "routed to interviewing supervisor" on 3/29, and I received my interview invitation via email on 4/14. I got to choose a time slot between 8am-4pm on May 15th, but other units may have different interview dates. I just wanted to tell you guys since I know we're all anxiously waiting. Good luck to everyone!

Has anyone heard anything back from the med/surg unit?

Called in on Thursday (4/13) to ask about interviews and was told that all invitations for UCLA Summer 2017 RN New Grad Residency would be sent on Thursday or Friday (4/13-14). Wishing everyone the best! I'd advise you to call in if you didn't receive an email by Monday.

Man there are way too many externals that spread false info. For the record interviews will continued to be e-mailed till the rest of the month and possibly into May, this is coming from two different unit directors. When the internals have't received invites yet, you know there shouldn't be any worrying. I have a friend who is an external who is getting an interview and he hasn't received an update yet, so don't even worry. UCLA likes you to wait, just have patience.

Do you happen to know how many applicants get interviewed and how many are actually hired? I applied for the med/surg units but I'm afraid I may be underqualified in comparison to most who have some sort of healthcare experience!

@SlimSaydee, Hi! Just wanted to say that I got an email about the Neuro ICU yesterday but my friend applying to a different unit got an email a few days before so I'm sure it's just crazy different for everyone and honestly even within the same unit! Good luck!

Hello everyone. I have patiently been waiting and watching everyone's status's change. I am happy for everyone and their success thus far in the application process, however, mine still says "Online Assessment Completed". I applied for the Neuro/Trauma ICU as well as the CTICU. Its already the middle of April and I have heard nothing. I felt as though I was a competitive applicant, but now I don't even think I have a chance. Is anyone else in my boat? UCLA was one of my first choices for a new grad program in the ICU. Any suggestions?

I know the ICU is very competitive because there are just less spots available. Have you considered applying to Med/Surg floors and the moving to an ICU after you get some good experience?

Is anyone else interviewing on the Ortho floor at UCLA Santa Monica?

Did anyone have a status change or contacted for an interview for Transplant unit?

I got an email about a interview on the Oncology floor at UCLA Santa Monica! Does anyone have an idea of how many people they interview and how many job openings they have? I was hoping for an idea of what my chances are looking like thanks!!
