Hey guys! I'm starting this thread for the Winter 2025 Cohort at UCLA. Hopefully we can update each other on application processes, interviews, and job offers!
The application opened up today 09/06! Good luck to all of us ❤️

My nursing school never educated us about externships at hospitals so I don't have that under my belt, nor hospital experience at as a CNA/PCT during nursing school, only prior to nursing school at a SNF. All I have is a great GPA, and team lead/customer service experience. I'm starting to get so discouraged because I wish I knew what these residencies were truly looking for.
im in the same exact boat as you! I did not have any prior healthcare experience going into nursing school so I feel behind bc I feel like so many hospitals are hiring internally :( it is so easy to get discouraged but we have to keep going! I have a friend who had to apply to over 100 positions before getting an offer, its just super competitive and oversaturated RN in california... but we got this :)

Agreed. I have 3+ years of CNA/PCT experience at one of the two top hospitals in LA. Finished nursing school in June magna cum laude and was licensed a week and a half after. I applied internally to my own department with whom I did an externship with and still wasn't hired. I think at the end of the day it depends on whether they think you're a good "fit.” Just try to stay positive and keep applying. If it helps to know it turns out all of the new grads my department hired have been licensed for at least 6 months (some almost 1 year).
