Summer hopefuls talk here.... good luck to us all!!! :nurse: :redbeathe

HI EVERYBODY!

I ALSO APPLIED TO THE UCLA NEW GRAD SUMMER RESIDENCY PROGRAM! AHHHHH I'M SO EXCITED.

UCLA totally welcomes new grads in all of the ICUs. I work at UCLA as a CNA/Care Partner and have talked to many new grads in the Neuro ICU, Medical ICU, CT ICU, etc. So don't worry about not getting ICU just because you are a new grad.

Anyone else also work at UCLA as a Care Partner?

That's good news! Have they told you about their experiences? How the interview went?

Care Partner? Never heard of it called that, that's pretty neat. Do you know if theres job openings for that position?

Hi Mard688:

A Care Partner is also known as a CNA. At UCLA they use the term care partner so it sounds more professional, I guess. Yes there are job openings but they only hire nursing students that are sophomores (that have finished first semester of med/surg clinicals) or juniors, and people who are CNA's as an actual profession. They don't hire seniors in nursing school because they know that you'll be graduating soon and want to apply to the new grad program.

If you look at the other threads about the UCLA process, that's everything I've heard from nurses I've met as well...phone interview with TalentPlus, then interview with the RN recruiter and she sends you off to the unit managers of your top 3 that are hiring.

Hello everyone! I also applied to UCLA. My first choice was the NICU followed by peds. Nice to meet you all!

mine says "Awaiting Assessment Completion" also. i was lucky enough to be taken to the survey/assessment right after i filled in the app. fingers crossed. i applied to the Surg ICU, Neuro ICU, and CCU.

CCU wasn't an option was it? I don't remember seeing it on the list of choices...

lovepeacelove,

Do you know what kind of student history most of these new grads had prior to the residency program? Our school doesn't have an ICU rotation, but I have worked as a tech in a medical ICU since December. I applied for 3 ICU positions, so I hope it's enough!

I assume they are talking about the cardiothoracic ICU position.

This thread makes me laugh because people on here are so excited about just being able to apply.

I am not trying to be a downer or anything but marvel at how hard we have all worked and how difficult it is to even be able to apply to a position.

I applied as well and got a call from HR asking what I did to avoid the assessment. She explained there was a glitch and for some reason several candidates did not receive the assessment. I explained how I went through the process and said it never came up for me.

I was then able to ask her how many applicants they had and she said about 1000 so far. So there had been 1000 applicants in a little over 24 hrs. I was amazed and she said if I did not hear anything by the end of the first week of April then my application had been overlooked, denied, or they had moved on to other applicants.

So, if you don't hear from them by the end of April you did not get the job. I wish everyone luck and hope this gives everyone some anxiety relief.

Yeah CCU was there. CCU mostly cardiac issues, and theres CCU Medsurg.

Hi,

No I'm not sure about their student history...but I'm sure that if you have a passion for the unit that you applied for, the unit managers will see that and want to hire/teach you! :o)

I didn't have CCU as an option on mine, for I would've signed up if it was! :)

There must have been a problem/glitch in the computer because several people I have talked to didn't have the same choices. My friend called HR because she didn't have Labor and Delivery as a choice on hers (but I did), and HR told her they weren't hiring for LD.

I'm still really confused why all of us weren't able to choose from the same topics, but I thought I'd share what we heard from HR

I didn't have CCU or L&D as a choice.
