UCLA New Grad RN Fall 2021

Nurses New Nurse

Published

Hi,

Is anyone else interviewing for a new grad RN position at UCLA? I have an interview scheduled in a couple of weeks for the ICU and I haven’t seen many people talking about their new grad program so I thought I’d start a thread ?

If you don’t mind me asking what were your stats?

Hello all nursing student here. I graduate in December and I was wondering if you guys could share your GPA and experience on here?

Sorry for the unsolicited advice but if you’re doing your preceptorship right now I would strongly recommend keeping track of all the interventions you’re doing and any interesting patient stories. So many of my interview questions, including the one I just did for UCLA, had to do with my patient care experience and having a specific example really helps sell your answer. I didn’t have to do care plans during my preceptorship and I realized when I started prepping for interviews that I had forgotten a lot of the specifics of what I did in my last semester. Most interviewers will be very interested in your preceptorship experience, particularly if it’s in the same type of unit as the job you’re applying for.

Has anyone heard anything about their new grad med surg/peds application? My "last modified" date got updated a week ago but it still says under review

I haven't heard anything yet either. I believe someone on here told me in November they will start reaching out to candidates for interviews

I received an interview invite to schedule in November. keep an eye out for an email from ucla

Hi, when was the invite sent ?   Was it today?

Me too, I got an email invite yesterday around 4pm for MedSurg/Peds

Are you an internal applicant?

No I'm external. I interviewed for the ICU new grad too, but was not selected.

do you know which unit you'll be interviewing for izzybell?

I am external as well but didn't get a chance to interview for ICU new grad

Hey pearjuice,

In my application I selected pediatric as my preference, so that is what they will interview me for. You can view your application in your ucla candidate profile if you don't remember which one you clicked. But basically be prepared to answer questions on why you would like to work for UCLA on that specific unit/what you will contribute to them, etc. All the interview questions are situational and behavioral. In my opinion, the interview was not hard, just be yourself and do not try to over-impress, and be ready with examples of what you've achieved in your past jobs that would be fit for their unit.

I think they really go based off of character more than anything and how well you handle pressure - I was not selected for ICU because I admitted I am not assertive, so that might have been a  ?  for them.

Got an invitation to interview for med surg/pediatrics yesterday afternoon
