UCLA New Grad Program 2010

Published

Has anyone heard anything back from the UCLA New Grad Summer Program for 2010? I applied in the beginning of February and have only had a phone interview so far, with no feedback yet. Any info or others' experience would be much appreciated, thank you!

misscaliRN: ok! I sent you a friend request. I don't know if that'll do anything :)

Woot! Congrats Misscali! =) That is so exciting! Looks like you're the first here at allnurses. I had my interview at SM on monday, and I'm still waiting to hear back. Torture! =P

MisscaliRN: I figured it out! check your inbox! and I'm sure you're not tired of hearing this, so CONGRATS again! :)

Congratulations MisscaliRN!! That is amazing!! =)

Did anyone get calls this week? I think that they are just running really behind or at least I hope so? I think that those people that got calls in early Dec for interviews were for floors that really urgently need RNs and the rest of us are applying for floors that aren't sure or don't need many new grads and thats why its taking so long because if there isn't an immediate need they might as well take their time in the process. Thats all that I can really figure out.

I have to keep the hope alive. I know that when I went back and read the postings for the Spring applicants that there were periods of time of long waits and that some didn't receive job offers until 12 days before orientation. There was one person who went for her in-person interview with the nurse manager and then didn't hear from the manager until 3 weeks later with a offer. She really didn't think she had the job. I have to keep reminding myself to have patience and to keep positive. I hope that the winter group will be like the Spring group where eventually most of us that hang in there will end up with jobs offers...that is my Christmas Wish!

Thank you everyone for the congratulations!

Not sure if this is helpful, but I do have a little bit of info on the units I interviewed for in regards to their hiring time frame. I interviewed with Cardiovascular Step-Down and Pediatrics General at SM-UCLA. The managers both said they are hiring 4-5 new grads and they plan on making decisions by the end of next week. I really do think that because these units are general med-surg they are taking more new grads and making decisions earlier than other specialized units such as ICUs. I'm sure other nurse managers will be hiring past the new year. I know how difficult it is waiting for some sort of news..but try to stay positive!!

nurseteee: This is frustrating, but I cant respond to your personal message because I'm a newbie on this site and dont have 15 posts yet!

I have some info as well. The nurse recruiter told me that it's just unfortunate that there aren't more choices for med-surg units that are hiring this time. Currently, cardiac step-down at SM is filling up and Neurosurgery at RR is still completely open. For neuro, apparently the manager didn't hire any new grads last year and they don't usually hire any. Don't know why. Maybe because it's such a complex/specialized unit. Not suitable for new grads? Hmm...

misscaliRN: No biggie. Hmm, are you able to view my message at least? I left my email address in one of them if you don't mind shooting me an email instead. Lemme try again :)

Hi Nurseteee!

I was wondering if I could ask you some questions as well =) I sent you a PM, hopefully you get it, I'm new to all this as well...

Geez, this is really testing my patience. If they're not interested, it would be nice for a rejection letter or an updated status on our application online at least. Well, best of luck to everyone & Happy Holidays!

I wouldn't hold my breath for an updated status on their website. I applied for the last new grad program (Fall 2010) at UCLA and it still says "we have contacted you for an interview".

JenJen82084, did you apply to this program too, or are you working somewhere else?

I had an interview for the NICU at Ronald Reagan and I really really really want to work there. They are still going to be interviewing for the next two weeks for that unit and will only be hiring 3 people! That's a bummer:( the unit is very nice and quiet! I hope I get a job offer. I have an interview tomorrow for the pediatric unit too at Santa Monica. Hope that goes well. Good luck to everyone!
