Hi friends!
Anyone applying to the UCLA MSN-Advanced Practice program for Fall 2014? I applied for the FNP program. I figured we could use this thread to chat and update each other!
Thanks!

I don't know how you guys are coping from the long wait; I got rejected by the same institution that has molded me to be what I am now- I don't know what is worse than that. I thought my 10 years of ICU experience and growth inside the institution, achieving certification, active in some activities in our unit, teaching and volunteer experience will be enough to overcome a not so stellar GPA, affected by extenuating circumstances that prevented me from not performing to my best capacity.
I'm crushed and shattered into pieces. And everytime I re-read your previous posts and learn about your GPA's, it just makes me feel hopeless about my admission status. I don't know how much GPA is weighed on people who have been in the practice for a long time. Sorry I'm just venting out.
Can I ask what institution you are talking about? All I can say is that you're not the only one getting rejections...keep your head up and remember these schools don't know you personally!! Also I don't have a stellar GPA and I already got into one program with only 2.5 years experience. You will get in somewhere. I'm not coping well with the wait AT ALL. Don't think I've ever checked my email this frequently!!
Don't be hard on yourselves. I only cope because I have a 9 month old and I'm not sure, if I get accepted, if now is the right time to go back to school since I am a single mom and work full time. I believe in whatever is meant to be will be.
My my girlfriend just got rejected from the UCSF FNP program. Went to school at John Hopkins, works ICU at ucla, stellar GPA etc. They can ONLY take so many students at a time. So what sets you apart from the other stellar stat applicants? Hard to say. The FNP program at UCSF only took 15 students. My gf said they liked the nurses who had pediatric experience. Who knows.
I think the statement of purpose holds the most weight. NPs are gonna be let loose into the real world and forefront of current healthcare. I think life experiences trials and triumphs make someone interesting and capable of thinking outside the box. That can really set you apart from scores and years on paper. Just my thought.... What do you think?
@gemi123: yeah, it makes sense. I just wish the admission people would think like that; but, schools has to set their standards as well. Maybe next application cycle, I'll be more realistic as to which schools to apply for. But, totally, I'm with you.
@sunny1230: thank you. Let us hope for the best. :-)

Sunny1230- physio does not affect your admission chances. But if they do accept you into the program, if UCLA does not feel you have met their requirement, you can take it over the summer.
However, after I submitted my app, the SON at ucla sent me emails to let me know physio class and physical assessment class did not meet their requirement however, would not hurt my application.
So if you didn't receive a similar email, perhaps you are in the clear. :)
