Hi everyone!
I am planning on applying to UCLA's MECN program for 2021 and since I did not see a thread here yet I wanted to get one going for us to share questions and concerns. Good luck to everyone!

1. my word count was exactly 500 on both essays
2. I submitted my application the day that it was due (Nov 1). risky, I know LOL
3. This was my first time applying to UCLA, and to any program in general
4. I have no type of volunteer experience. I have a little over 1 year of patient care experience. I work in a Psychiatric hospital as a mental health worker. Other than that, I intervened a few years ago at a homeless shelter but only did 100 hours.
5. I have not yet take Epi course.
I must say, my LOR were really strong and so were my essays. I also have a 4.0 GPA on pre-reqs, and 3.9 for my undergrad. I worked on my essays for months, and had at least 5 people revise them. I don't have a CNA or emt cert, but I do have a unique story and spent a lot of time carefully researching the program and tailoring both of my essays describing why UCLA was the best fit for ME.
Hi there! I'm really curious to read your Statement of Purpose and Personal Statement. At least just the first paragraph of both. IF YOU are willing to do so, would you mind sharing? If not, I completely understand sharing personal anecdotes with strangers is weird LOL. If you don't mind emailing me, [email protected]
I would appreciate it. If not, totally cool. Wish you lots of luck and the best experience imaginable in your MSN program! ?
Hi All! I wish I had found out about this forum sooner! I’m #2 on the alternate list. Looking through previous years’ threads and thought it was really nice and incredibly helpful when waitlisted applicants shared their admission statuses because then everyone else after them on the waitlist had an idea if they were closer to the front of the line. The program responded to my email inquiring about the timeline for when they would start reaching into the alternate list and was told that it will be when the deadline for admitted students pass which will be some time within the next 2 weeks.

Hi there #2! Thanks for the information! I have been really anxious the past few days hoping that I can get in - #4 on waitlist
@babyalph2021 Hey there #4! I'm also in a constant state of anxiety. If this admissions cycle is anything like the previous years (according to other years' forums), applicants on the alternate list should start receiving admissions offers the day after the deadline. In our case, it will be after this Friday, 2/26/21 ? I hope we'll know where we stand before the end of next week.

Me too! I found out that 5 students deferred from last year into this year, so instead of accepting 70 students UCLA accepted 65 students this year. Now, I am not sure how that would affect our chances. Cause last year they accept waiting list no.13 (or sth close) on Sept, just couple of weeks before class start ?. Do you have other backup school? Cause UCLA is my no.1 choice ??, I do have a backup acceptance but much much prefer UCLA

Oh wow! I do remember reading that from last year's thread. It will be interesting to see how this year will play out. Congrats on your other acceptance! I'm wait listed at a few other schools including PENN and JHU, but unlike UCLA, they don't have a ranked order list. ?

Wow, it must be pretty scary right now to be in your position ? But I hope you will get in to schools of your choice!! That’s true, it’s kinda nice UCLA have a ranked waitlist so it really helps with calculating our chances. In any case, I wish good news for both of us next week!!
Hi everyone! Congrats to everyone that were accepted into the program! You will find that UCLA is the best place to start your nursing career.
I am a current first year MECN student at UCLA, and I actually wanted to comment on this post to talk to those that were rejected. I empathize with you guys on the feeling of rejection. I know it is disappointing, but I just want to say to NOT GIVE UP! If you believe that UCLA is where you want to go, try again if that is an option for you! I was rejected the first time I applied in Fall 2019, but I knew I wanted to go to UCLA so I reapplied for Fall 2020 and was accepted during the first wave of acceptances. I believe that a rejection does not define you, it only makes you stronger. I definitely encourage those that have their heart set out for UCLA to reapply next year if you like and take this time to improve your application. Anything is possible ? goodluck!

Thank you! @ardni_12 Could you tell us what you did differently the 2nd time around? Did you change your essays/resume? or gain additional work/volunteer experience?

Of those that were accepted, have you received an official acceptance from UCLA's Graduate Division? Mark said last Friday that it will come within a week's time but I still haven't gotten mine.
