Is anyone applying to the Fall 2012 program ? I have a few questions and I think it would be good to share our concerns regarding the application process here.

I am a preschool teacher and I am applying for 2012. Have very little healthcare volunteer experience and wondering if that really maters. I have some experience looking after a family member who had a stomach surgery and chemo.

Hovered over the mailman today but still no letter. Called admissions to see if they could just tell me and they said they don't even have the applications anymore, the Graduate Division does. Of course they're not answering the phone. Nursing admissions said if we don't hear by the end of the week to call again. Arrrg!

I received my acceptance letter in the mail Saturday :) Congrats to all those who've been accepted... looking forward to meeting you all (we should start up some kind of facebook group!) Good luck to those still waiting. And to those who were not admitted, keep trucking! You will end up exactly where you're meant to be.

Hey All! I was wondering if anyone knows how many people get wait-listed?

Greetings MECN Students!

I am wondering if any current students, or new 2012 students are aware of any online courses that meet the Epidemiology requirement? I am out of town caring for a sick parent, and would like to maximize my time with family/minimize housing costs in Los Angeles..... Any recommendations are greatly appreciated!

Hey @Chappie1920 - I am also on the hunt for an online epi class. A friend recommended this one: HLTH 345 Principles of Epidemiology - BYU Independent Study - Online Courses it's a little pricey, and I still need to run it by the SON, but seems like it could work.

Sincere thanks @anewnurse79!

I'd been trolling the internet for hours and couldn't find any online Epi courses. Would you mind letting me know if this course meets department requirements when you hear back from them? (Do not want to email too and barrage them with the same question.....) It's is costly, but not in comparsion to an extra 2 months rent in L.A.!

60 students got wait-listed!

hi anewnurse79 and Chappie1920 - just to let you know that HLTh 345 is one of the approved Epidemiology Courses for MECN Program. It is on the list. It is way cheeper....

@KASSACH - where is HLTH 345?

it is Brigham Young University (BYU) which is the 5th line under Epidemiology Courses Health 375 or 345

Hi all! Congrats to those of you who have been accepted. I just received my acceptance letter today and am ecstatic over the news.... but also really stressed about making my decision between schools. A large portion of my dilemma lies in my understanding (or lack thereof) of the CNL role...

I was wondering what each of you have heard about the CNL position and what kinds of opportunities are available to UCLA MECN graduates. I assume that, because UCLA is such a highly regarded school, there will be many positions available for graduates in the area... (which works well for me because I plan on working/living in southern California). Are most students in this program looking to get an advanced (NP or CNS) degree, beginning working up the chain as an RN in a hospital, or looking to take on a more administrative role amongst nurses? From reading up on the CNL, I get the feeling that it is more directed towards management over hands-on patient care? I am hoping that because it is an "advanced nurse generalist," we are encouraged to work in any area we might wish to try... But is working in smaller clinics out of the question (or discouraged) for those with CNL degrees? My goal is to work in maternity care... I just want to make sure that is still possible/ encouraged with this degree..

And, finally, because the program lasts two years, with a summer session in between the two, I take it that means there is only ONE summer session and that the two "years" just refers to regular school years (fall-spring). Thus, the Fall 2012 cohort would graduate in May/June of 2014??

has anyone checked if this course: hlth 345 principles of epidemiology - byu independent study - online courses definitely meets the requirement?

also, i would love to hear more from current students about their experiences this year: how they would rate the professors, courses, & scheduling? i saw that nadianana posted their schedule and it was mon 9am-11am, tues 9am-8pm, th 9am-5pm, & fri 8am-11:50am. i was wondering if this schedule is pretty standard for ucla mecn first years... and does that mean you have wednesday off then? that would be nice... that is quite a long tuesday though! i assume there is a break in there somewhere... i have a dog and i would need to go home and let him out at some point!

thanks so much to anyone that can provide information!!
