Is anyone applying to the Fall 2012 program ? I have a few questions and I think it would be good to share our concerns regarding the application process here.

I am a preschool teacher and I am applying for 2012. Have very little healthcare volunteer experience and wondering if that really maters. I have some experience looking after a family member who had a stomach surgery and chemo.

Found out via postal mail and I live in the LA area too!

Got the letter through snail mail. I live about an hour away from UCLA

Pttrac- So do I... I wanna hunt down my mailman now lol

i live in los angeles and got my acceptance letter via regular mail today! but online it says "no decision has been made." i applied last year and was rejected... from what i remember, those who didn't get in saw their rejection letter online, and those who were accepted or waitlisted see "no decision has been made." so basically, no news is good news.

my deepest condolences to those who didn't get in. i've been there so i know how it feels!! just hang in there and don't give up.

mine says No Decision but I haven't gotten my letter. I live only a few minutes from UCLA. Arrg! I'm just breathless waiting.

I haven't received my letter yet - although I'm in SF, so assuming I won't get anything until Sat or Mon - and it's 'no decision' online. Sigh. Waiting...

@lilpeapods - I had my CSULA interview today. Thought it went well - think it went a little longer than I had expected - at 2 hours!!! (and had forgotten that there was a writing sample!?! So that threw me a little) but Kathy was saying it would take the next month (?!) to make decisions. How did you think your interview went? (or should I continue this on the CSULA thread...)

i got my acceptance today via mail. however, i don't think im going to be attending UCLA...so good news for people on the waitlist :)

Does anyone know the # of people on the waitlist? I'm kinda bummed I got waitlisted

@lilpeapods if you don't mind me asking, what did you do differently for your application the second time around?? oh and congratulations!!! :)

a no for me too. at the info session, i recall the presenters saying that last year, i believe, they accepted only like at 10 at the most

hi sunshiine! i'm sorry to hear you didn't get in. after i was rejected, i contacted the dean via email. she basically told me i was a strong candidate but that my background was different (i was a film major) from their usual applicants and i still had pending prereqs (i was finishing up microbio and stats). but i think her main concern was that i had no healthcare experience. how serious was i about nursing? when i applied last year, my only experience was caring for a terminal family member. i had zero volunteer experience under my belt.

i was so depressed after getting that rejection letter. UCLA was the only school i had applied to because i was still finishing my prerequisites. but the rejection really motivated me to get some experience to see if i am truly cut out for nursing. that summer, i enrolled in a CNA training class with the Red Cross and got certified. then i got a full-time CNA job at a hospital. i've been working since october and i love it! then i resubmitted an application to UCLA with a new personal essay (i just told them to use my old letters of rec but you can always submit new ones).

i hope that helps!! don't give up. second time's a charm! :)
