  1. Pinkmegan look in the phone book for alcoholics anonymous. they can get you to a meeting whether your problem is with booze or drugs.
  2. Chappie, I'm car-free in Los Angeles. If your place is along a major bus route it should be no big deal to commute across town. It's only $1.50 to ride the bus here, way cheaper than NYC. It's also really safe. You can do it! Best, MK
  3. @DoGoodThenGo you're right. I'm going to do some more research on LVN's and what they do @Nursing2102 i'm excited to do that next year if I can get enough prerequsites.
  4. What does CC stand for?
  5. Actually I did have all the prerequisites done for this program and got all A's. Maybe I should have been more clear. I meant to say it is the only one I applied to because I didn't have enough prerequisites to apply to OTHER programs. @cally527 I'm going to meet with the dean in 2 months. They won't be available until then I'm told. @agldragonRN - are there a lot of job openings for LPN's? What do LPN's do?
  6. So I was rejected from the school I applied to this year. I didn't have enough prerequisites to apply to any of the other schools in my area. Now I'm trying to put together a plan for how to proceed. So far, my plan is to re-research other schools and take more classes. I'm looking at some EMT or CNA classes to see if I can get more work experience, but I'm not stoked about the idea of working in a nursing home as a CNA, or driving an ambulance. I know there are some EMT's who work in hospitals. I'm also going to meet with the school I applied to to find out why I was rejected. But mostly I feel discouraged about how much time I'm having to spend in school. What are other people's plans?
  7. Got my letter today. Waitlisted with a ridiculously high number, so effectively rejected. I have a 4.0 in all prerequisites (all completed except epidemiology) and volunteer with Red Cross. Graduated undergrad on the Dean's list in a non-healthcare major. With a 4.0, I don't know what they're looking for, but I'm pretty disappointed.
  8. Hovered over the mailman today but still no letter. Called admissions to see if they could just tell me and they said they don't even have the applications anymore, the Graduate Division does. Of course they're not answering the phone. Nursing admissions said if we don't hear by the end of the week to call again. Arrrg!
  9. when i get my first good nursing job i'm going to tell my husband to quit his job. he put me through school, it is his turn for a break!
  10. I can't get to sleep! I dont know how much more suspense I can take. I hope the letter comes tomorrow.
  11. mine says No Decision but I haven't gotten my letter. I live only a few minutes from UCLA. Arrg! I'm just breathless waiting.
  12. @kgroundw - Since we would probably not be able to work as a clinical nurse leader until we get several years of experience, it seems like something not to worry about at the moment. I'm not sure Do NP programs even take applicants who have not worked already as RN's?
  13. I gathered from last year's forum that the people who were rejected found out before the people who were accepted via this website https://www.gradadmissions.ucla.edu/newapp/Login.asp?topage=AdmissionStatus.asp. The people who were accepted found out in the mail? Or email? I'm not sure. Do you think we'll find out next week on Thurs or Fri? Or will it be the following Monday Tuesday? I check that website above every day even though it is early. The waiting is driving me crazy. I dont know if I'll get in but I just want to KNOW
  14. When I applied to nursing school my family made me promise not to wear printed scrubs. No problem. As a PT I always thought they were unprofessional. So excited to wear the same thing every day to work! No thinking about clothes.
  15. Go to AA Get a bike and a bus pass Take this as a serious warning about your alcohol use. Driving is a huge responsibility. You endangered the lives of thousands of people. Take this seriously.
