Hello All!
I'm applying to UCLA's MECN program this year for Fall 2020. Who else is applying? I hope we can all support each other through this process. ?
What are some of the questions you may have about the application process?
I emailed Mark last week, who said I was still #1 on the waitlist. He said there has been no movement since the first week of March. I committed to UC Irvine for now, but if I get into UCLA I will definitely be attending.
UCLA has their orientation on July 30. What usually happens is some students don't show up to the orientation, which means they forgo their admission. This means that those who are on the waitlist and have done the epidemiology prerequisite will have a chance to enter then. Of course, this will be in August.
So for now, hopefully people have gotten into other schools and made arrangements just in case.

Hi!!
Thanks so much for the update! When does UCI start? Is the start date pushed back because of the pandemic?

Thank you so much for sharing this information!! Bummed we won’t have another update until July potentially, but hoping for the best! I noticed from past years they had let in around 10 from the waitlist at this time.... maybe there are a handful of people who have not let Mark know their decision. Do we know if they have a date they have to pay and commit?

From what I gathered, beyond the February 21st SIR, there are no other hard deadlines bc that's not the UC policy (UCI has the same policy). They basically will consider anyone who does not attend the orientation as forfeiting admission.

CONGRATS on your acceptance/commitment to UCI! I’m sure that feels great to know you have a secure spot in their program. I didn’t realize UCI starts classes in June, hopefully you will hear back from UCLA before June!

Hi I was admitted and committed to UCLA. We were given a deadline of February 21 to let the school know if we intended to enroll. No deposit was required. The acceptance is basically conditional if there are outstanding items such as official transcripts or the Epi class. I believe we have until the first weeks of class to get all that in/completed. Graduate orientation is supposed to be on July 30 and a clinical orientation in September. Not sure how COVID-19 is going to affect all of this. We haven't had much communication from the school. The financial aid person for the school of nursing emailed us about a scholarship application they'll be sending to us in may. Beyond that no other updates. I did see that UCLA was going to online orientations but I am not sure if that is only for undergrad or for both.

A lot of schools are in the same situation. Johns Hopkins direct entry MSN program, they have two separate Accepted Students Day; it's more a tour and information sessions to help people if they want to go there with student and professor panels, other speakers such a state delegates, and so forth. They have two of them because they do two rounds of decision notifications. I went to the first in Baltimore. The second one went virtual.
I know quite a few students are concerned, and talking about deferring to a later cohort because of the uncertainties around COVID and in-person classes and clinical hours for the fall term.
I know other programs have moved orientations to later dates with the presumption the school campus will be reopened by then.
And all schools are going to be effected by this because we need to do the health screening with our doctors--physicals, immunity tests, and so forth--which all require going to see our doctor.
Hi! CONGRATS to all who have been recently accepted to different programs! I am very interested in applying to the UCLA MECN for the Fall 2021 start and have a lot of pre-requisites to knock out. Because of my current job the only real option I have is to take them online.
I was curious for those of you who may have taken classes that weren't on the approved list - did you send up the course syllabi in advance and get them approved? If so, who was the best point of contact for this? It says on their website to send the syllabi with the application but I want to avoid spending money on a class that ultimately won't count!
Also, did anyone have any experience with getting military experience counted towards pre-requisites? I have attended a lot of schools that had order writing and delivery as the main component that I would like to see if they count towards the group/verbal communications requirement. Thank you!
