UCLA MECN Fall 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

It's that time of year again! I am planning on applying for the Fall 2019 quarter. The summer 2018 information sessions are now open. Who else is applying ?

This year is the first year they are making it mandatory. So yes, we have to write a Statement of Purpose (more focused on why you want to be a nurse) and a Personal History Statement (more about you and your background). The prompts for each are on their website. Hope this helps!

@_jay17 Thanks for the info.

How many institutions are we allowed to upload in the academic section? They're only allowing me 4 but I need to add one more.

Anyone know if fellowship opportunity is beneficial for the acceptance?

Is everyone else applying for it?

I honestly don't know. Maybe call and ask?

I do not think it is necessarily beneficial for acceptance into the MECN program itself. You cant even be considered for the fellowship unless your department (in this case the MSN-MECN department) nominates you. I believe deciding on whether they nominate you or not is based on your statement of purpose, personal history statement and all other important aspects of your application (grades, LORs etc.) If anyone else has insight on this topic, that would be helpful too!

Thank you guys for answering my previous questions. Do you guys know what type of format we need to use for SOP? (indentation, headings, etc)

Also, is font size 11.5 considered too small? It's so difficult to keep the statement short T.T

Hi guys,

I've been trying to reach the recruitment and admissions team but no one seems to be available :( Do any of you know what to put under the Epidemiology section if you have not taken it yet? (I am hoping to be able to take it at UCLA if I get in).

I am wondering the same thing, did anyone get back to you about this? I am not sure if to leave it blank or put "n/a" or what.

Thank you! Wasn't sure if it was mandatory either. I went to the information session in July, but I can't remember what they said about it!

I spoke to an admissions coordinator about this. You can put N/A for almost everything in that section. Just make sure you put that you plan to take it at UCLA or any other institution you plan to take it at and put any date that indicates that you will have completed it by next summer!

I attended the information session on July 11 and what I wrote down on my notes was "can be any format" but I don't remember why? On the paper that I wrote that on is the one that's titled "MSN/MECN Application Procedure" and for the SOP the only guide it gives is "2-3 typewritten pages, double spaced".

Thank you so much! I will make sure to do that.

Also, did they mention anything about how to put separate grades for lecture and lab classes? I was going to email them right now about it. For example, if I got a B for lecture but A for the lab portion of a class?
