UCI MEPN 2021

Updated:   Published

Hi all,

See there is no thread yet for this upcoming cycle, I know it's a bit early, but figured it might calm my anxiety to connect with others going through application!

Thank you! You as well!

Hi everyone! I will also be applying this Fall to the UCI MEPN program! My undergrad GPA was 3.3, still finishing prereqs (should be done by December yey!) and I have been a medical scribe for over 2 years at an ED plus some volunteer hours with COPE. My grades aren't too competitive so I'm hoping my experience and personal statements help! Good luck to you all! \^_^/

Good luck with everything! ?

Feels anticlimactic applying to other programs frantically only to wait another 2 months before UCI is due, but excited nonetheless.

Welcome to join us during this waiting period! ???

Hi guys! I am new to this thread but I am a recent graduate with a BS in Neuroscience and I just applied for this program! Do y'all know when acceptances will come out? I hate the waiting game and I'm so anxious about the results ?

Hi there! I think they send out acceptances in March, which feels very close to the start of June; but that is what I’ve read from the thread of last year’s cohort... I wish we could find out in January!

Ooh good to know, thank you! I know, I wish we could too!

@opiedrahita OMG, hi! I'm not sure if we know each other but I also volunteer at CBTB in San Francisco and is applying this cycle. Good luck to you!!

Hi everyone!

I am also applying to the MEPN program for next Summer! My undergrad GPA is a 3.7 and I am in the process of finishing prereqs at the moment with a current GPA of 3.8. I graduated college a year early in 2019 (definitely a young applicant) with a degree in kinesiology to pursue a career as a physical therapist, but then completed an internship in the field and realized it wasn’t the right path for me. I have been working as a certified personal trainer for a year now and have also completed a medical internship at a plastic surgeon’s office last year. After shadowing registered nurses, I had realized what I really wanted to pursue. I have been volunteering at UCSD Jacob’s Medical Center since the beginning of COVID (also worked as a medical scribe in 2015 on a mission trip in Nicaragua) and this has further solidified my desire to pursue a career in nursing. I have applied to 6 other MEPN programs as of right now but UCI is my top. I’m not sure as to how competitive these programs are or if they will take me less seriously due to my age, but I know for an absolute fact that this is what I want to do with my life. I wish everyone the best of luck in their application process! ?

This all sounds awesome!! I'm on the same boat with having a B.S. in kinesiology but graduated in 2018 and initially wanting to pursue physical therapy. Good luck applying!! May I ask, what are the other MEPN programs you're applying to?

That's awesome! I think it's great that we already have a strong background in the sciences. Good luck applying as well!  Sadly don't hear back until March for some programs. What other programs are you applying to?

How exciting! Should I safely assume you’re planning to become an NP with those programs? I have an interview with UVA too!! Praying for the best for both of us. So far I’ve only applied to UVA & UCLA, other schools I’m applying to are Johns Hopkins, Elmhurst, Rush University, Augusta & University of Maryland!

That is my end goal for sure! I know the UVA program results in CNL licensure and I would ideally like to work for a few years to gain experience before getting DNP (I want to be a family nurse practitioner). Yay, that's awesome! I am sure that we will do great! That's a great list! What is your top school and do you want to become a NP as well?

To be honest I’d be grateful to be accepted into any of those programs since I don’t feel like a particularly strong candidate but I know wherever I end up it’ll be fine!  And no not NP at this moment, but nursing for sure!

I understand your feeling! Do you mind sharing your stats?
