Hi all,

See there is no thread yet for this upcoming cycle, I know it's a bit early, but figured it might calm my anxiety to connect with others going through application!

Hi there!
I am preparing to apply to UCI MEPN Program this fall. Getting all the documents ready. It would be interesting to know the competition intensity during this period. Let’s share our backgrounds and stats. I have an overseas Bachelors degree in English (pretty low GPA of 3.1, though), 6 years being an English teacher, 5 years being an entrepreneur, and currently working as a CNA at a nursing home. Prerequisites overall GPA - 4.0. No other healthcare experience or volunteering.

Hi! Thanks for sharing your information! I wish you good luck in applying! Well-written essays may make a huge difference in the application process.

Hello, I am a Biology (Physiology) major undergrad with a 3.5 GPA and 3.9 prereq GPA. I have most of my experience volunteering at Clinic by the Bay in San Francisco as a Spanish medical interpreter. Pretty awesome experience post-pandemic — I would enter exam rooms with nurses and doctors to provide translation and overall clinic support. However, now I translate during over-the-phone examinations/follow-ups. Interesting to hear everyone’s background - thanks for sharing as well!

Super impressive, sounds like you will be a really strong applicant! My background is in mental health, have worked in the field for around 12 years, and hoping to pursue psych nursing. My science prereqs are not so great, so far have Bs in AP1 and Chem think my UG GPA is like 3.6ish? Has been a while since I looked. Hoping the app is more holistic and there isn't a huge ding to my app based on grades alone.

Hello! Does anyone know how long the UCI MEPN program has been running? I don't see the MEPN NCLEX pass rates on the BRN website so I'm assuming it's fairly new. Is that why the only accept 25 students per cohort?

I think last year was their first cohort.

Hi! I am interested in applying to the UCI MEPN program and I noticed in the prerequisites, it says they only take letter grades and not AP credit. This is a bummer because I scored a 5 in AP Psychology for credit in General Psychology. I also took 5 upper div psych courses for a Psychology minor.

Does anyone know if they make any exceptions to AP credit? If not, I am on the waitlist for Lifespan/Developmental Psychology.

Hi everyone! I will also be applying this Fall to the UCI MEPN program! My undergrad GPA was 3.3, still finishing prereqs (should be done by December yey!) and I have been a medical scribe for over 2 years at an ED plus some volunteer hours with COPE. My grades aren't too competitive so I'm hoping my experience and personal statements help! Good luck to you all! \^_^/

Hi everyone!

I am also applying to the MEPN program for next Summer! My undergrad GPA is a 3.7 and I am in the process of finishing prereqs at the moment with a current GPA of 3.8. I graduated college a year early in 2019 (definitely a young applicant) with a degree in kinesiology to pursue a career as a physical therapist, but then completed an internship in the field and realized it wasn’t the right path for me. I have been working as a certified personal trainer for a year now and have also completed a medical internship at a plastic surgeon’s office last year. After shadowing registered nurses, I had realized what I really wanted to pursue. I have been volunteering at UCSD Jacob’s Medical Center since the beginning of COVID (also worked as a medical scribe in 2015 on a mission trip in Nicaragua) and this has further solidified my desire to pursue a career in nursing. I have applied to 6 other MEPN programs as of right now but UCI is my top. I’m not sure as to how competitive these programs are or if they will take me less seriously due to my age, but I know for an absolute fact that this is what I want to do with my life. I wish everyone the best of luck in their application process! ?
