  2. Hi!! Sorry for getting back to you late. Clinicals depend on the nurse you're assigned to for the day. I personally have never had a mean nurse, but I have friends who have had bad experiences with nurses who don't want students. You're allowed to do most things as long as your nurse or your clinical instructor are with you! I've attempted IVs, put in Foleys, passed medications (oral, IV, subcutaneous, suppositories, etc), primed IV lines, inserted an NG tube. If you're not practicing your skills, don't be afraid to ask or to tell your instructor! You're there to learn and you should be able to make the most of your short time in the program!!
  3. My patho professor was pretty tough! She taught a lot and also tested on a lot. We had weekly quizzes and no study guides for the midterm or finals. I think I taught myself most of the material since having that much information taught to me during 1 lecture/week was overwhelming. However, the cohort after me had a different professor who gave study guides and taught differently, so I'm not sure how she was.
  4. NSO for malpractice insurance! For BLS, I just went on the AHA website and found a class near where I live! If you work at a hospital and they offer BLS, take it there! It will most likely be AHA.
  5. To my knowledge, only a few but that may be because they put the majority of waitlisted people into the Spring cohort! For my applications cycle, they accepted for both fall and Spring. Hi! Things you need done before first semester: BLS, malpractice insurance, all titers (if you need to redo any vaccines, you don't have to get them all done before school starts. Just get started before school starts and communicate with the school) The school will send you a link to sign up for a castlebranch account. This keeps track of all your clinical site requirements. Things included in castlebranch: drug screening, background check, physical form The school will sign you up for fire card and Management of Assaultive Behavior. If you already have these, you don't have to do them again (unless they're going to expire during your time in the program)!
  6. Hi there! I'm currently in cohort 5 and I can answer some common questions I saw: Textbooks You will receive a textbook bundle with a discount code. These are the books you need for semester 1 and 2. They make it seem like you NEED to buy through the publisher, however it's not necessary. You may be able to find the textbooks for cheaper, but the important part is the access codes for online homework. I found it more worth it to buy the bundle for the first half, but not the second half. Some people opted to not buy the bundle and just buy access codes as needed. Prepare yourself--bundle #1 is EXPENSIVE (like over $800). Working I personally worked per diem as a medical receptionist. I know people who worked part time (some people even did night shift) as CNAs/restaurant hosts/ED techs. You need pretty good time management to work part time. I know I can't do part time and I'm fortunate to live at home with my parents and not worry about many bills. Schedules Your schedules will be made for you. The time you leave clinicals will entirely depend on your instructor. Some people left around 4-5 pm. Others left at 6:30-7 pm. Just prepare yourself for 12 hour days (6:30-18:30) and be pleasantly surprised if you leave early. When will I get my schedule? You will learn that you will sometimes wait a very long time for things. The faculty is trying their best, just be patient! Did I do a video interview? Yes, to my knowledge only one person did not do a video interview for my cohort. How many people got accepted into my cohort? 41 I hope this helps! Good luck to anyone reapplying for Spring! ?
  7. I'm also waitlisted! I think OC12 is referring to the cohort name. My email said they can't identify my waitlist place number at this time
  8. Hello Spring 2021 cohort! The fall 2021 cohort has been selected and I wanted to share our facebook group with anyone who was admitted in any previous cohort to join! If you're willing to give some advice and answer some questions, you can join at this link: www.facebook.com/groups/csunabsn05/ Thanks in advance! We'd love to hear about your experience and advice! Best of luck in your Summer semester!!
  9. @raethehug thank you so much for all the info you've provided!! You've been so helpful!! I also wanted to ask when we should expect more info like submitting health requirements, uniform requirements, paying tuition, etc. And if we will be receiving an orientation? Thank you again!
  10. Hi everyone! Congratulations to everyone who was accepted, and to anyone still waiting or did not get in, keep pushing through!! You all will make amazing nurses!! I was admitted for Fall 2021 and I'm excited to connect with other members of the cohort! I made a facebook page if anyone is interested in learning more about each other. Maybe out-of-area people can also connect to make plans to move into the area! Link here: www.facebook.com/groups/csunabsn05/ ?
  11. @radison10 Don't be discouraged!! People in previous threads for the CSUN ABSN program have gotten in without the video interview. As far as we know, everyone is still being considered, so don't lose hope! ?
  12. We're 5 weeks past the application deadline! We probably have another 5 to go ?
  13. I think from other threads it looks like they send out decisions around 10 weeks after the due date, so it is not a rolling basis. I think for Orange County campus they accept around 25 applicants? Hope this helps! Best of luck to everyone!! ?
  14. Hello! I am applying for the OC campus for Fall 2021 start as well! This is the latest deadline I've seen for a school so far! Hopefully Covid is not delaying decisions ?
  15. I am also waitlisted! I heard in a previous year that an incoming class was 1/4-1/3 from the waitlist. Pretty exciting! Don't forget to accept your waitlist status! ?
