UCI MEPN 2021

Updated:   Published

Hi all,

See there is no thread yet for this upcoming cycle, I know it's a bit early, but figured it might calm my anxiety to connect with others going through application!

I couldn't apply this year because they don't permit any in progress classes (finishing physio this semester), so I'm looking at applying next fall regardless of whether or not I get into an ABSN.... How bad would program hopping look? I mean, it's UCI. I gotta apply for the hell of it right?

Hey!

For those who are accepted LMK if you'll want to connect, and we can start a FB group sth.

Hey everyone, I just found this forum and I just applied this year to some MSN  programs. A little bit of info about myself for current and future readers. My UG GPA is 3.6+ and my Prereq GPA is a 3.5+. My grades are okay nothing here that would make me stand out. I have volunteer experience from a hospital, I have done home health and I started a career as a teacher but did not finish it because I was introduced to nursing. I am currently tutoring and volunteering and if I do not get in I am planning to be certified as a phlebotomy technician. I got an interview from UCI last week and honestly I have no idea if I did well or not. I simply answered the questions but I also stumbled a bit. I am reading that many have gotten their acceptances and I am so happy for you guys!!! Quite honestly I did not expect to get in this year but the interview gave me a bit of hope and at this point I am just anxious.

-For those of you who got in would you mind giving us some tips for those of us who will apply next year. I know many of you stated your info in previous post but it would help a lot to rewrite it and perhaps what you guys felt made you shine to get the acceptance letter. Was it the letter of rec? Statement of purpose and  PS? Grades? or simply everything?

I know we should not try to compare but I always like to get an idea of what exactly the school is looking for specifically this school.

thanks in advance for those who respond.

To be honest I really have no idea. It is unclear what factors led to acceptance. I was sort of surprised. I know I had two stellar letters of recc one from a supervisor and one from a former professor that I am now teaching a course for. I have a lot of experience in mental health but none specifically in nursing and have seen in other programs many folks are CNAs, EMTs, etc.

I totally agree with @lmft2np! I was just as shocked about my acceptance. I will say though, I do think my resume helped me A LOT. As an undergrad I was involved in many activities from mental health, fitness, home aide, and research. Post-grad I worked as a coach for LAUSD and did the COPE scholars program with over 350 hours. I’ve been a scribe at a community hospital ER for the last 3 years and LORs came from 2 ER docs and one nurse - all who are my mentors and have witnessed my passion and growth in our department. My statements were also very very personal and true to what I wish to accomplish - I started VERY early with this maybe May-June of 2020 (however limited the # of people I let read it because it should remain true TO YOU). My UG GPA was 3.4 and my grades have been As and Bs for the prereqs (not as competitive as others I’ve seen on here). I do think this school looks at their candidates as a whole and pick people who truly want to be at this program and have a plan/goal. That’s all I can think of tbh, hope it helps! Good luck everyone!

Yes please, that would be awesome!

Commenting to follow this thread! Congrats to all who were accepted/waitlisted. I haven't heard anything from UCI yet but will be accepting my offer from Western and staying on USD's waitlist for now. 3% is a crazy low acceptance rate!!

Hey everyone! Congrats to everyone who got accepted and waitlisted! Is it safe to assume I didn't get in if I haven't heard anything back from them yet?

Still nothing for me either... really anxious now! I don’t know what to expect at this point, just hoping for the best. Anyone who got accepted to UCI have other offer letters?

I only applied to UCI and one other program. I already accepted my offer. The deadline to accept the offer is mid-March, maybe they'll begin notifying some people then? I hope you guys hear back soon!

Hello! May I ask, when you accepted UCI's offer, did they prompt you to pay a deposit or do anything to acknowledge your full committal??

Thank you!

Congrats to everyone who got in!! Did your admissions letter state when you needed to accept your offer by? I read mid-March?

I'm wondering the same! I'm just expecting a rejection at this point.
