Hello!
The application window starts January 1st, which is a couple weeks away from now. I am excited to apply though and see what happens. Who else is planning to apply here?
I am planning on applying to both the accelerated and traditional pathways.
I know exactly how you feel, missind33. I have no patient care experience of course, so it will be a whole new world to get into that. I wouldn't want to be rushed through it either, because every minute is important when it comes to becoming familiar with taking care of your patients. But I have faith that UCF wouldn't design a program that would leave graduates inept in the area of patient care. It would reflect negatively on their program immensely if a graduate couldn't do basic care tasks because they simply weren't taught them, and overall would project the idea that the program is no good. I doubt a school as great as UCF would allow such a thing.
Good luck on your application, paulyboyy! You stack up quite well with me, actually, although your overall whoops mine. Here's my stats.
Overall- 3.579
Pre-req- 3.88 (4.0 non science/3.8 science)
Teas- 91.3%
Thank you! I may talk to advisors after the decisions are made. I know that if they expected some type of patient care knowledge that they would be students of the rn to bsn track but who knows. Again they are not looking into experience when making their decision, just on pure number stats only. The lack of interview is a relief in the process, however the waiting is killing me. I hope my background check and finger printing processed okay!
You should give them a call. I actually called up just to check on that- basically to confirm they had my fingerprint and background results and that everything was all clear. I knew it would be (I'm no criminal, never even gotten a ticket), but I couldn't help being concerned that there were no errors made by the company when processed.
I have actually heard that many BSN programs in the US actually require you to be CNA certified just to apply. Now, here I could see where they would expect patient care knowledge. But for us? No, I can't see that they would expect much beyond common sense stuff that anyone should assume when there's a patient involved, like ensuring they aren't in pain and confirming all medicines were given adequately during the day as per patient needs/doctor's orders.
Hi everyone! I'm glad I found this forum :) I started one yesterday for the ABSN program after reading previous years posts! I got about 100 views and no comments so I was feeling pretty bummed....lol! After reading everyone's posts, I'm starting to freak out! I have a bachelors in Molecular and Microbio and my undergrad career killed me for a while. I originally wanted to be a doctor but that isn't going to happen anymore so nursing is the next best thing :) I have a 3.45 overall GPA which makes me nervous after seeing all of the 3.8-3.9s out there. I have a 3.75 in both pre-req categories, my Bs are in stat and micro but my micro was that ridiculous 3000 level micro at UCF that everyone hated. I got an 86.7 on the TEAS. How does everyone think I compare? And good luck to everyone applying!!! I hope we all get in :)
I hated the 3000 level at UCF I took it recently. The biomedical science classes/pre med major classes are ridiculously difficult. And I hated how microbio was 5 credit hours.
I'm applying to all the UCF tracks I have a 3.8 overall, 4.0 prereqs, and 86 TEAS. You should be fine based off of last years stats the scores varied for the absn. I wouldn't sweat it, again overall is the least of their worries. The prereq gpa is the most important factor and UCF does look at repeated classes!
Welcome, Kristenleigh! You sound like you have pretty good stats and I wish you luck! I know what you mean about wanting to be a doctor. I originally envisioned myself as a dentist, believe it or not. But after some personal growth and life changes, I realized that I did not truthfully want to be a dentist. It didn't suit me as a person, and I don't think that 10 years of schooling to be one would have changed that. Nursing was always a secondary, sort of pushed away idea for me. My mother, grandmother, and great-great-grandmother were nurses, so I have always been surrounded by and completely fascinated with medical and scientific topics. I hadn't considered being a nurse myself until recently, but now that I have matured a good deal from my youth, I realize how much the profession suits me to the core.
Ali- I previously emailed ATI about this exactly. They stated that it is sent electronically to UCF, and that it should only take a day to get. UCF CON however must print this and insert it into your file, so it took a few more days for that to be done in my case. But they did get it. I believe it gets sent to UCF CON directly, or at least they have direct access to it. I would order it, and then in 2-3 days, give UCF CON a call and ask if it's in your file or not to make sure they have it.
Yes, Ivoryleola, I couldn't agree more!! I was going to take post bach classes for a year then reapply to med school but I'm ready to start my life!! I just recently got engaged and decided it was much more important to me to start my life with my fiancé than to spend 10-15 more years in school. Nursing allows us to do what we love and have a life and a family :)
Wow, kristenleigh, we basically have the same life story haha! I did m&m too at ucf planning for med school, but met my now husband junior year and decided this life was what I wanted instead. As such, I have those higher level classes dragging my overall and science prereq down, too :/ hopefully it doesn't hurt us too much and we still get in! Welcome to the group!
