UCF Cocoa Beach/Daytona Spring 2013

Published

I am a pre-nursing student attending UCF Orlando Campus. I am applying this summer to Cocoa Beach and Daytona Campuses to start Spring 2013! Eeek! I know there have been other forums regarding previous admissions to the program that have helped me to figure where I stand. I thought it would be nice to have a chance to meet each other, talk about our scores, and answer or ask questions regarding the application process!

WOW 92% on the TEAS! That's AWESOME! I plan to take the TEAS again in August. How did you study?

Thanks Rachie002! I just studied the McGraw 5 Teas practice book. I took the first 4 practice exams and felt ready for the real deal. Good luck in August!!

Just to let you guys know I have decided to go a different direction (PA school) so I am now working towards that. Ergo, I will not be applying so one less person to view as competition. Good luck everyone (:

This is off topic but did you get a chance to shadow the PA already? what are the main differences in responsibilities as opposed to nursing and doctors? I know people call PA's, " doctor", but they still work under the physician, so its a bit confusing what exactly they do.

What school are you going to try to get in? The only PA schools, I know of in central florida is NOVA, further north its UF and they have the best PA program in the state then a couple other like Barry and keiser.

UF is my top choice. & I just shadowed one in the ER. They go in the room and everything just like doctors but if they need a second opinion then they ask the dr to take a look. Also, they just kinda run by the dr what they are going to do to the pt and the dr just signs off on it. However, the dr does trauma alerts, not the pa in the ER I shadowed at. But there are trauma PAs at some hospitals. Nursing and PA is very different. The PAs kinda give orders to the nurses from what I saw such as "go give the patient this med, ect" The nursing/PA relationship seemed kinda similar to a nurse and dr

Thanks so much for the info and advice!! I feel much more confident :] @bsnmom023

I dropped off my TEAs scores at the CON today and the woman at the desk says that they are definitely doing an interview this year, so it should be interesting to see how it plays into the acceptance process...

I will be submitting my application soon! My overall GPA is a 3.2 (i switched from pre-med to nursing so I took some major science courses :/ ), my pre-req GPA is 3.6, and my adjusted individual total TEAS is an 87. The fact that only 36 students are accepted makes me extremely nervous, not to mention interviews. I will be applying to the concurrent UCF/SCC program, crossing my fingers I get into one of them! Good luck everyone!

I'm not too nervous about the interview process but I am so nervous about the TEAS. I take my last attempt Tuesday and I really need to get my scores up. I bought the ATI study manual months ago and I've been studying a bunch but the Chem and Bio kills me. I took the two online practice tests I purchased and they seemed much harder than the actual TEAS. My GPA is a 4.0 but I proctored exams aren't my strongest category. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice?

I am going to retake the TEAS this thursday. I'm sorta hoping this is not too close to the deadline. I hate interviews and I''m not much of talkative person so I hope a higher score will just lift me up. Just do as many practice tests as you can tonight focusing on those weak areas only. The one practice test from ATI that I took I realized I made some silly mistakes by not reading the questions properly, so take your time and relax and read through the entire question. For me the language is my weakest area, I am really tired of the silly trick questions with 2 possible correct answers and I always seem to choose the wrong one.The practice test is helping me to understand the rationale or " ïrrational " behind their correct answers. Make sure to get lots on rest on Monday night. I made 84% in the actual test but I want to get closer to 90,however, in the practice test I made only 67%, it is definately harder than the real thing but I liked the challange. I wish you all the best. I will repost my scores once i retake it.

Thanks so much!! Yeah the first time I took the exam about 3 moths ago I raced through it and had taken the pre-reqs about a year and a half prior and ended up with a 70. I bought the manual and I've gone over everything I missed and even got help from a tutor with chemistry. I'll be happy with anything in the mid 80s but the practice exams were really difficult and made me discouraged. Everyone says the actual TEAS is easier so I'm hoping going into with a clear head will do it. I take my TEAS Tuesday morning and they said to submit everything as soon as I was done to leave a little time if anything comes up and needs to be resubmitted. As far as interviews go, don't worry so much. I think they just want to see more of who we are. Just be yourself and I sure that will be enough. I'm praying to get an interview, and waiting until October is killing me!

Good luck on your TEAs! remember to watch your time, a few of my friends ran out of time on a couple sections, read carefully & try not to stress it too much... thats what helped me :]
