Hello everyone. I'm new to allnurses.com and I just wanted to say congrats to those who got into the 2012 UCF nursing program this summer.
I am a prenursing student at UCF as I am still working on a few prerequisites before I apply to CON.
Seeing you all on here, all going through the things I'll be going through next spring makes me feel better about this whole process.
Good luck to everyone!!! Strap in! It's going to be one kind of a ride from what I've heard.
Is there anyone out there who is planning on applying to accelerated program (ABSN) that starts in summer 2013? I'm starting this thread in hopes of finding many of you who wouldn't mind going through this somewhat stressful process together! :)
I am very excited and hopeful that I'll be accepted next year. I already have a bachelor's degree in finance and investments so my #1 choice is the accelerated route, however I will also apply to the basic program as a back up option, which will start in the fall of 2013.
Anyone has taken TEAS yet? I took it in spring semester and scored 82. My overall GPA is 3.90 and prerequisite GPA 4.0 so far. I still have 4 prerequisites to complete. Should I retake the TEAS? I heard that scoring 90 or above makes you really competitive.
Thanks for all of your responses.
Best of luck!!!
That would be great! I wasn't able to attend the information session so I missed out on all of this good information. I was going off of the info in the handbook!
Well then, that is one less thing I will have to worry about. Hmm. It feels kind of strange with nothing left on the to-do list....

There will be plenty to do. Lol
They will send bunch of forms to fill out and vaccine records to complete. You'll need doctor's approval to do nursing etc.
well, unless you have done it already
@DAK, yes, you're correct CON offers a CPR class and from what I heard it offered at discounted rate..
I'm good on my vaccines- I did the blood titer as part of the admissions thing and I already have my Hep sequence done.
A doctor's visit isn't much- I had to do that when applying to PA schools so it is pretty much already done.
Actually, I totally forgot that I need to be on the SCHOLARSHIP hunt!!! That's what is going to take up a lot of time. Good! That makes me feel productive! :)
I also need to go to an info session on student loans. This is going to be the first time I take substantial student loans so I need to figure out how to budget that. Has anyone else here lived on student loans before? Do they give you a lump at the beginning of the semester like the college or do they meter it out? I'm in charge of childcare and rent with my part of the income, so my loans will need to cover an additional X amount each month for living expenses.

They give you one big lump at the beginning of the semester.
Good morning everyone,
Would those of you who get accepted this week join a closed FB group?
It would be a nice way to stay in touch before the program starts and later to collaborate throughout semesters.
Would you like to give such group any special name?
It would be great to hear your ideas since I'd hope for this group to represent a team effort.
Let me know. :)
I'm crossing my fingers for today.
Have a great day!!
Yes, I'd join a closed group- but I don't quite know what that means. I'm FB-stupid.
If that means we could continue this type of communication- sure. I think because we are all going to be working closely with each other (and 60 others) for 14 months, it is a good thing to start to really get to know each other. I'm a military brat and I make a family wherever I go- so I'm looking forward to adding 60 new friends to my circle.
I think it would be wise to get as many people on board with something like this to create study groups. I used to do online study groups (chat forums) so that everyone can study together but we don't all have to be at the same place. Someone would type a possible test question and we'd all scramble to look it up. First person to answer gets the point. We'd make a competition out of it. Another great use of this is for group projects.
Good luck to you all !! My roommate is currently in the basic program so she is always telling me About all th exciting things she is learning. The program sounds like an amazing opportunity and I hope you all are blessed with an acceptance email, got my fingers crossed :)
Thank you very much for your support, we are all crazy with nerves today, I'm sure.

I thought during the info session she said CON has a CPR class that they offer just before school starts...I could be remembering wrong though.
