Hello everyone. I'm new to allnurses.com and I just wanted to say congrats to those who got into the 2012 UCF nursing program this summer.

I am a prenursing student at UCF as I am still working on a few prerequisites before I apply to CON.

Seeing you all on here, all going through the things I'll be going through next spring makes me feel better about this whole process.

Good luck to everyone!!! Strap in! It's going to be one kind of a ride from what I've heard.

Is there anyone out there who is planning on applying to accelerated program (ABSN) that starts in summer 2013? I'm starting this thread in hopes of finding many of you who wouldn't mind going through this somewhat stressful process together! :)

I am very excited and hopeful that I'll be accepted next year. I already have a bachelor's degree in finance and investments so my #1 choice is the accelerated route, however I will also apply to the basic program as a back up option, which will start in the fall of 2013.

Anyone has taken TEAS yet? I took it in spring semester and scored 82. My overall GPA is 3.90 and prerequisite GPA 4.0 so far. I still have 4 prerequisites to complete. Should I retake the TEAS? I heard that scoring 90 or above makes you really competitive.

Thanks for all of your responses.

Best of luck!!!

Yup! Oh I can't wait! I can't wait! :singing:

I think I am looking forward to really making some good friends. I totally missed out on that in my previous college experiences (I worked constantly, didn't reach out to others). It'll be a little harder this time around with kiddo, but that just means I get to host all of the study groups!

Hey there! I got an interview at 12. I have a little bit of a drive so I wanted to give myself plenty of time to get ready and prep. I'm happy for everyone on this thread! It's a little overwhelming thinking of 100 people interviewing, but I think we are overachievers even by just using this site! I never found out how they are scoring all the applicants. I wish I knew the breakdown. I'm assuming the interview is just as heavily weighted as test scores... I will definitely be wearing dress pants, blouse, and blazer combo. My main trouble now is finding the perfect balance between sounding scripted and just being genuine.

Lol

That's great. I don't have kids, YET, but I am ready for them. Been ready. Lol

I realize though that the best time to start a family will be definitely after the program.

That's why I admire you, all the parents on here who are signing up for this roller coaster.

It's really great, and I know you'll succeed.

Practice and speak from your heart. I have the same problem. I sat with my husband for four hours on Sunday to practice speaking. He was a panelist and I was on the other side. What I realized was that the more clever and educated I was trying to sound the more scripted it came out. I got frustrated and just started speaking about what I really felt ,and man did that come out natural and genuine.

The way I look at it now is this: I know why I'll be sitting in that room, I know how hard I worked for it, and most importantly I know why I want to be a nurse.

So look deep into your heart and just go with it.

They know we will be nervous, and I honestly think that what they really want to hear from us is that we know what we are signing up for. They want team players. They already know that we are smart. After all it landed us an interview.

:)

You can borrow mine any day you need a kid-fix. She's even potty trained and will commonly dress as a princess-cowgirl-star wars character. :) Actually, I was thinking of starting a parents group once we get started (and anyone else who wants to join) to maybe trade babysitting hours or have study groups that are child friendly.

Does anyone else here have kid(s)? Would you be interested in having child-friendly study groups? Or, would people join study groups if they were kid-friendly? To me, kid friendly means at a house, where kiddo is allowed to watch a movie in the other room or play with others while the adults study together at the dining room table. Not studying at Chuck-E-Cheese.

Lmao

I just might take you up on that offer. Lol

Kid- friendly study group sounds good. I'm sure others would appreciate this idea.

Well, lets get into the program first and then we'll get really creative about everything.

I guess I'm an incurable optimist.

I would love to do a kids study group! My son is 15 months old right now and having other parents in the program to study with would be fun :) Well, as fun as studying can be lol

My kids are 9 and 5 but split between their dads and my house. Most of my study time will be when they are with dad or asleep. There won't be much time on weeknights for study groups if we are out of class at 5 pm as mine go to bed at 7 and 8! Where does everyone live? I'm in Lake Mary.

and curious, I know never ask a woman her age... but how old are you guys?? And how many men are on here?? I was surprised at how many male nurses were on the unit I volunteer on!

I'm from east Orlando; 15 min from UCF; I'm 31, married to a great guy; no kiddos. YET ;)

I'm 28, married to my hubby for almost 5 years, 15 month old son, and we live by the airport.
