I had a couple questions about the school and prereqs. Their website says they will not accept any classes that are over 10 years old. I have finished most of the prereqs, only have a few left. However, General Sociology and General Psych are 10 years old (1996 and 1997). But I have taken other Soc and Psych classes in the last five years. Will those count, or do I still have to retake General Soc and Psych?

Also, how competitive is it to get into the program? I have gotten A's and B's in all my classes, and expect to in my last few courses. They say at least a GPA of 3.0, but do they really only accept people with much higher GPA's?

And lastly, for those that are going, or have gone, what are your opinions on the school, teachers, classes, clinical, etc? I have only heard good things so far, but would like more opinions. Thanks.

I would see about phoning them to see if anyone can answer your questions about pre-req's. Gotta' believe the competition is fierce to get in.

Yea, I was thinking about going to one of their information meetings and bringing my transcripts. I was just hoping someone might have already been through the same situation. And I am sure the competition is hard. I want to get into nursing school and not wait for years, but at the same time I want a really good education. I don't want to regret my decision to go to a school just because it was easy or quick to get in.

Yea, I was thinking about going to one of their information meetings and bringing my transcripts.

I'm a big believer in getting as much info as possible - no such thing as too much, especially when trying to figure out how to be a nurse.

I was just hoping someone might have already been through the same situation.

I'm a newbie at all this, but finding things out and sharing info at this forum has been a big help for me.

And I am sure the competition is hard. I want to get into nursing school and not wait for years, but at the same time I want a really good education. I don't want to regret my decision to go to a school just because it was easy or quick to get in.

Once again, I'm a newbie at this but it seems to be either (1) take all the pre-req's and get the best possible grades and get yourself on the waiting lists for all the schools you can possibly get to and attend or (2) pay the bucks and get in with no waiting list and be finished much more quickly (and deal with a question mark regarding transferability of credits down the road).

Wish I had a magic wand to make this easier for everyone.

I graduated May 2007 from UCDHSC with a BSN. I don't know about your prereq question but I can tell you that the competition is fierce to get in. When I was accepted I had a 4.0 and I don't know anyone who had less than a 3.5. In 2005, when I was accepted I beleive that there were close to 1000 applications for approx 100 spaces. The essay is critical and should emphasize your experience with diversity.

I feel that I got a great education in nursing. There was only one instructor that I was really disapppointed in and it was an online professional nursing course. Most of the instructors are still active in nursing and are very interested in making sure that you learn what they are teaching.

Good luck with the application process and with your future career in nursing.

No, you have been a big help, I really appreciate it. I think for and my personal goals, it would be better to get my pre-req's done, do very well in all my classs, and play the waiting game. I am just not a very patient person. :bugeyes:

From what I have heard, this is the school I would most like to get into. I love competitive programs....if it were easy, I wouldn't be interested in it. I am glad you got a great education. And thank you.

I am waiting to hear on acceptance for the BSN program (preference is Acc. BSN)- hopefully the letter will come in the next few weeks! I just want to know either way.

I know how competitive they are, but it is my #1 choice, and #2 is a distant #2 - I am so nervous!

I had a 3.65 undergrad - all A's in the sciences and maths, and my essay did discuss how much I love working with people from all walks of life at my current job.

Has anyone out there gotten their letter yet for this year?

I'm in the accelerated BSN, graduating in December 2008 (!) and I feel like I've gotten a fantastic education. Quite frankly, I couldn't ask for anything more. Sure, not everything is perfect but show me a place that is. Despite the difficulties, the school does a great job of providing us with excellent opportunities.

I do believe it's pretty competitive to get in. I had all A's in my prereqs, a 3.5 GPA from my undergrad, and an essay that I worked on for months. And now I am in a class with some of the highest achieving, ambitious, intelligent, and compassionate people I have ever met in my life. I thought I was Type A...these people make me look calm and lazy, which is an amazing feat. I feel incredibly privileged to be part of this class and working alongside such amazing people.

I'm happy to answer more questions if you have them. When I was applying/waiting, etc, I didn't have anyone to talk to (at least for a long time) so I'm happy to chat with you and help out in any way that I can.

I agree with line and bensmom, I've loved my experience so far with UCD (also graduating in Dec. 08!) The education has been great, I have only had one professor that I wouldn't recommend, and I feel like we're being well prepared for what's to come.
