Master's Entry Program in Nursing

This would be there first cohort. I remember looking at this page about 3 weeks ago and the application was closed. Im surprised they opened it so soon and have a quick deadline coning up (Feb 1). I already applied to programs but could definitely use a back up since I live in the bay area. I just dont know if I can make that deadline (as far as LORs)

Nice stats BTW!

Hey fellow applicants-does anyone know how strictly the admissions committee is adhering to the prereqs for this year? They were super specific about the communications classes that would count, but I know several schools that have some flexibility in their prereqs.

Thanks so much!

I spoke to someone in the office about that, and at the time they said that IF they were short qualified candidates they might consider candidates with things like an in-progress prerequisite (in my case, I've got group communication currently in progress so I was asking about that. I ended up being scared away by the cost, and didn't apply.)

Nice stats, heard anything yet?

This waiting game is killing me. I really hope we all get in the program because this would be amazing. Can you guys also update me here and leave a new post if you guys hear anything from the University?

Hi. Does anyone know the cost of the program? I cannot seem to find that information anywhere?!

Not really "information", but I got the text notification that the late application period was closed, and applicants will be notified "in April". Looks like the March idea is off the table.

Yeah unfortunately, they have prolonged their admission notification timeframe. I hope it is the very first week of April since the program starts Mid to late June. You would think they'd have to give us enough time to plan and fill the cohort in case people choose to attend another program. Anyone have an idea on how many applicants there are? Hopefully not too many applied between the start of applications and the priority deadline (12/24-2/1). I'll try to call and ask when I have some time tomorrow or next week if no one knows.

I've gone through 4 MEPN interviews, and there have been several candidates echoing their fear towards this program since we would be their inaugural MEPN cohort. As a result, some have stayed away from applying to this program. However, I have spoken to Nurse Educators at the VA in Palo Alto, and they've told me that UC Davis is still a highly reputable school, and their nursing faculty are really sharp and excellent educators and that I shouldn't worry about being in the first cohort.

As far as tuition, I've used this link as a guide:

Cost of Attendance for Graduate Studies Programs | Financial Aid and Scholarships

I imagine the whole program to be about $50k-$65k (including living costs, books, etc) which is not bad compared to a lot of private schools! My other top choice that I got into (Univ of San Diego is $106k for tuition alone ). While I'm asking about the number of applicants, I can also ask about estimated cost of tuition.

Here is some information regarding tuition that was published in the Proposal for the Master's Entry Program in Nursing (available at https://gradstudies.ucdavis.edu/sites/default/files/upload/files/grad-council/nshl_mepn_proposal_packet_revision_mar_27.pdf )

"The MEPN program will be a Self-Supporting Degree Program, with tuition set at $90,000 per student in 2015/16 for the full 6 quarter program ($15,000per quarter), and will not increase during the course of the program. The tuition will increase 4% annually, with the increase charged to just the new cohort each year."

I understand that this document is a proposal, so I'm not sure whether the stated $90,000 tuition is what we would end up paying. However, I can't imagine that tuition would be much lower. In the meantime, I'm hoping for an acceptance letter... and scholarships!!

Hey everyone,

i asked the admissions committee the question about prereqs, which they didn't really answer, but they did tell me that applicants would be notified by the end of March. I'm hoping that means that applicants who turned in their app by the priority deadline will hear a little sooner. Who knows though haha. Good luck everyone!
