UBC 2021

Published

Hiya folks!

It's a bit early, but since the application period opens in a couple of months, I thought I'd start this topic to share support/encouraging words/info/nervousness.

Is anyone else already excited for next September?

Congrats to everyone who got in so far! I received my rejection email about an hour ago. For those of you who have gotten accepted/are waitlisted, could you share what you talked about on your supplemental application and how you studied for the CASPer? Thanks ?

Hi! I'm waitlisted number 44, my CASPer and supplemental were ranked 1 but grades were a 3. For CASPer, I bought the BeMo casper test prep book which was really helpful for formatting the answers, and then I watched a lot of the multiple mini interviews videos on Youtube. There were also videos of med students, etc. explaining how to answer those types of questions.

For my supplemental, I mentioned I will be done my BSc in Behavioural Neuroscience this semester. I talked about my experience as a research assistant at BCCH (I was in contact with patients, shadowed nurses, and communicated with surgeons and other departments). I work as a BI in a preschool program for kids with autism and have 1.5 years of retail experience. Volunteering with a research lab at SFU, hospital gift shop, and an afterschool program for kids.

It really sucks that my grades were what got me waitlisted. I thought my GPA was pretty decent, but I think my classes were considered "easy," because they were a lot of Psyc and electives.

I hope you get into other schools you applied to! This is super stressful.

Just got my rejection. Anyone know someone or resources of who I can talk to to discuss my supplemental and figure out how I can improve it for next time?

I was wait listed last year and got accepted to this years cohort.
If you'd like, I can offer some tips to improve your application for next year.

congrats!! I got waitlisted this year and would love to hear some tips on how you improved from last year.

To everyone who received an acceptance email, is your status updated in the Student Service Centre? I got an acceptance email but I don't see anything... I still see "Your application is currently being reviewed by the Faculty/School." Should I be worried ?

has anyone else still not got an email?

Don't worry! Mine is not updated either ?

I got in!! Congrats to everyone else who got in (see you in September!!) and fingers crossed for everyone who's still waiting ??

Does anyone know if there are cohort group pages that we can join (or maybe we should make one)? I'd love to start getting to know people!

Mine is the same as yours, I think it might take a day or two?

Thank you! ☺️
I’m not sure how to message people on here, so if there’s a way I can contact you (such as a spam email), I can try to help you!

Basically, I tried to improve every aspect of my application because I got pretty low scores for everything. For example, I took more courses to improve my grades, found new volunteer opportunities, and studied CASPer differently.

Just got my rejection email. Looks like CASPER and grades were the decider. I got a 3 for both and 1 for my supplemental. My GPA is 78%.  Not sure what I’ll do now. Is it even possible to improve CASPER score? They don’t give any feedback.
Congrats to all that got accepted!

Can you please email me at [email protected] ?

Congratulations to everyone who got accepted! excited to meet you all in September!!

For those who are still waiting or unfortunately did not get in this year - please don't give up. The euphoric feeling you get when you finally get in will be all worth it. Trust in your process, when you finally get accepted you will value it so much more.

I ended up waiting 2 years than I planned to apply due to personal reasons. I would not be the same applicant if I didn't go through what I did in the last two years! keep your head up high!
