Hello Everyone!
I am considering applying to UBC Nursing for the September 2012 intake... but I'm not quite sure if I'm eligible to apply...
My primary concern is my post-secondary credits... everyone seems to have already completed a Bachelor's before applying? As of now, I have 40+ credits... by the end of June 2010 I'll have 50+ credits (which is the deadline for all transcripts), but they're a combination of first-year science, calculus and language courses with only a couple of second year o-chem... would that be ok?
I am currently a Langara student, but I have studied at SFU before until my relocation.
I've also read on the website that the average age of applicants were 21-47 (please don't quote me on this, I can't remember the exact range)... and I'm now 18 (will soon turn 19 though), but I have the requirements it's just that I'm unsure if it's alright that my 50+ credits are mostly first-year...
My GPA now is 3.3 and hoping to boost it up after this semester...
I volunteer regularly at a senior home and am a certified lifeguard and swimming instructor, worked part-time at Timmys until relocation and now have a part-time job at a local grocery store... I just hope age isn't that big of a deal because I know what I want and I'm working for it...
Should I apply at all...
(Very Worried. HELP Please!!!)
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!
In response to Progressor: I don't think being a male improves your chances. From what I understand, everyone who receives an interview invitation are all on the same playing field now. In other words we all have an equal chance of getting in.
Giving priority to male applicants is a form of sexism and I don't think many of the applicants will tolerate this. UBC is looking for empathetic, intellectual and hard working individuals, regardless of gender/race/educational status.
For those wondering. I think they have only sent out emails, as the SSC website has not shown any indication of my interview invitation.
Good luck to all who are waiting! The waiting is the worst part, but try to remain calm! Ultimately, it is completely out of your hands.
Good luck everyone! The emails are definitely going out now, as I just received my interview invite this afternoon. I'm thinking that by being a male, my chances of being accepted will be improved. What do you guys think? See some of you on the 16th!
Good luck. I don't know if you would have improved chances of getting in because you are male, but I do hope (for the sake of those offered interviews, including yourself) that the interviewers would not discriminate by gender. I really don't see why they would.
I don't know if this will help or not, but my student centre information hasn't changed since I got the interview invitation, so don't be discouraged if you're not seeing information there.
Thanks ess-bee. I'll just stop refreshing the student centre then. lol.
I'm thinking that it's 4:16pm already, so this probably concludes another day of waiting. Not feeling too good about it.
I'm wondering if they work alphabetically, sending invites out to folks whose last names begin with A's first. My last name starts with "P" and I'm still waiting. If you're still waiting too, want to weigh in on my theory? If you've heard, want to let us desperate folks know if you're earlier in the alphabet?
Yes indeed spellingbee; at least based on last year's process. However, they do reserve a handful of reservation until the very last moment (literally a handful). Until we receive our rejection notice we still have hope. And congrats to everyone who has an interview, I know you must be elated.
empathetic girl, thanks for the words of empathy, you live up to your username. lol.
crow_flies, that theory has been put forward before in previous years' threads but I think it was unsupported by one girl whose last name was closer to the start of the alphabet and hadn't received an offer until later.. but still, it might be true.
I'm "T".... for totally going crazy
