UBC Nursing - Sep. 2012

Hello Everyone!

I am considering applying to UBC Nursing for the September 2012 intake... but I'm not quite sure if I'm eligible to apply...

My primary concern is my post-secondary credits... everyone seems to have already completed a Bachelor's before applying? As of now, I have 40+ credits... by the end of June 2010 I'll have 50+ credits (which is the deadline for all transcripts), but they're a combination of first-year science, calculus and language courses with only a couple of second year o-chem... would that be ok?

I am currently a Langara student, but I have studied at SFU before until my relocation.

I've also read on the website that the average age of applicants were 21-47 (please don't quote me on this, I can't remember the exact range)... and I'm now 18 (will soon turn 19 though), but I have the requirements it's just that I'm unsure if it's alright that my 50+ credits are mostly first-year...

My GPA now is 3.3 and hoping to boost it up after this semester...

I volunteer regularly at a senior home and am a certified lifeguard and swimming instructor, worked part-time at Timmys until relocation and now have a part-time job at a local grocery store... I just hope age isn't that big of a deal because I know what I want and I'm working for it...

Should I apply at all...

(Very Worried. HELP Please!!!)

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

No feedback on my application. Online at "you.ubc.ca" it still says my application is under review by the faculty.

Like waitwait said the email just contains the date, time and location.

Thanks for the info and congrats to you both.

Congrats waitwait and twoplusthree!!

I am going to attempt to study while waiting... I am starting to feel a bit discouraged.

Yes, congrats to waitwait and twoplusthree from me too!

Let's not get discouraged, though: I believe that the interviews that have been scheduled so far are only for Monday and Tuesday, so that leaves many more interview times still to be scheduled on other days within that week!

Congrats to everyone who got an interview so far! I may walk out into rush hour traffic soon..

So any thoughts on the "last name" theory (e.g. those who have received an interview)?

AWW, don't say that! I'm sure something will work out for you :). I'm dreading the wait too, I'm less than 3 semesters away from finishing my BSc at SFU and I might as well just finish and re-apply. What do you guys think?

Hi! My last name starts with F, I received my invitation yesterday. I don't know if this helps you out or not.

There is one person in charge of sending out the invites, so don't be discouraged! It will take some time for all of invitations to be sent out because she probably has other responsibilities besides just sending out the invites. Also, I'm sure she is also being bogged down with incoming calls from all us anxious students! So it will take some time. Some people were even notified today so I'm sure there will be more invites sent out the rest of the week.

Good luck everyone!

Too early to say Simburger. If nursing is what you really want to do and you get an interview, definitely, don't hesitate and go for it. With the high degree of competition in getting in, I don't think that you would regret going into nursing (even with 3 semesters left) if that is what you really want to do.

You're the sweetest. Thanks for the update and for keeping up our spirits. We all need it.

I think this concludes yet another day... I hope it wasn't the last day.

It honestly annoys me SO much when I get an e-mail from an unrelated party because it makes my stomach churn in excitement and then disappointment after I realize that it's not from where I want it to be.

lol.

hi all,

got mine last wed and my last name starts with 'b' so it seems to be alphabetical!

are they interviewing 180 or 200 this year? also, does anyone in the program know

roughly how many younger students are in the program? (less than 20) ... i feel they prefer

the mature students over us=((((

good luck to you all!!

wait, will my email not junk an email from an unknown sender?.....

no invite just yet..

oh and im 'O'

"Selection for interviews will be based on an Admission Index calculated from the academic and non-academic requirements, and applicants will be ranked relative to other applicants. All applicants will be informed of their selection status by the end of the first week in April and those who are selected for an interview will be contacted by the School of Nursing Admissions Office. The interviews for September 2012 intake will be held during the week of April 16, 2012. Interviewed applicants who are accepted will be sent an email with the admission offer and details about the registration procedures. Unsuccessful candidates will also be notified by email. "

this straight from the application process of the nursing website. note the bold.. >

If you're worried that you've missed the e-mail, iheartpurple, you can check out the message centre on the student service centre. That should have a copy of every e-mail they've sent to your e-mail account and whether or not it was delivered successfully.

It really sounds alphabetical- maybe the woman with an early name who got in late last year had a special circumstance. Anyway, good luck to everybody sitting through another painful wait today!
