UB ABS 2015

Published

Anyone on here applying to the University at Buffalo for the ABS program starting in May of 2015?

Congratulations guys! I'm in the program too...they do make you finish all your prereqs before classes start. The students who took pharm in the spring at UB had to arrange with the professor to take their final the day before our classes started, on a Sunday. They weren't thrilled, but it worked out.

Hi jjmm,

Thanks for answering my question. The pharm professors were okay with letting the students take the final one day early? Even if I was to take it on a Sunday, I still wouldn't have my final pharm grade yet.

Sigh... wait listed. They list my statistics class (from my old B.A.) as "pending" -- as if they're not sure it'll transfer. Thing is, I took it at UB! Otherwise, all my prereqs are now complete, and all I can do now to improve my chances is start retaking classes for better grades. Meantime, I'm going to try to get hired as a tech at the hospital where I volunteer, just in case the waiting list thing doesn't pan out for me.

Yeah, a lot of students start classes without their final grades in from spring. My pharm grade from Cayuga wasn't in yet when we started either. They will wait but they tell you if your final grade is under a C (If I remember correctly) you can't continue. Don't give up hope Rosewater, we have a few students that were wait listed and made it in :)

Thanks, jjmm! I'm glad I at least made the wait list. My grades are good, but not 4.0, and I really thought I'd get rejected. Best of luck to all of you who've been accepted!

have you considered maybe trying for the traditional program? thats actually what i'll be applying to and how did pharm go? i ahvent checked my grade yet lol. i think i'll wait till after christmas haha

Katehugs, I thought the average GPA was higher for the trad program, which is part of what scared me off applying. I've been saying no traditional programs because I wanted to finish quickly and get back to work, but at this point I should start looking at them because I could just as easily get rejected by accelerated programs next year, too, and then I'd have lost another year waiting.

Pharm was okay. I lost points on the quizzes, where I never really learned to read all the choices before marking an answer, but overall I'm happy with how I did. I need to remember to have Cayuga send a transcript to UB. Lately, my brain is mush.

The average GPA for traditional is higher but there are generally more seats available than the accelerated (70-80 seats last year). In my opinion, both programs are equally competitive. You should definitely try to apply for the traditional. Make sure you get some volunteer or work experience and write a good essay. Good luck!

Did anyone satisfy the Human Growth and Development prereq at ECC? I took Developmental Psych there but it looks like it wont transfer over. :S

I took the online Human Growth and Development equivalent at ECC but I think it was called Developmental Psych at ECC. UB would not accept the Developmental Psych class I had taken at UB which still makes no sense to me. I found the online class to be pretty easy.

did you have to submit a syllabus for review?

Hello Everyone. I've also been accepted, and just found this thread! Is anyone else applying from out of state? They have asked for syllabi from pretty much all my prerequisite courses which I've finished some time ago now. I'm worried that for one reason or another the classes won't be approved. I guess that there's not much I can do about it now but wait. Congratulations to all, and I hope to see your lovely faces come May.

I didn't have to submit a syllabus for the Developmental Psych I took at ECC because it was the course equivalent they suggested to me. I had to show a syllabus for some of the other prerequisites I took though.
