Uab- amnp how many accepted each year?

I see many of you all got accepted into the AMNP program this year at UAB. Congratulations to you all! I'm curious if any of you know approximately how many are taken each year and how many apply? I've heard as many as 300 apply but only 60 get in. I've also heard only approximately 120 apply and 50 get in. I really want to get into the program for 2012 and I was just curious what I was up against. If anyone knows, I'd love to know. Thank you! :)

Hey everyone, I know this forum is a little old but my question relates to it. I have currently been unemployed for 6 months and I have a Masters of Science in Health Education and Behavior from the University of Florida. I am actually planning to apply to the UAB BSN and AMNP to see if I would be able to get more hands on experience. My program obviously didn't prepare me well enough to land a job because we never got hands on experience. There are other students who on the same boat as me. I honestly dont know what to do anymore. Anytime I do try to apply for a "Health Educator" job, nursing comes up. So I feel like unless I get degree in nursing and become a RN I have no future. I still have a few more prerequisites to take, however I don't want to take them if I have no chance of getting into the school. Plus, like many other people, I honestly don't know if nursing is the right path for me, because I don't know what I hope to gain from the MSN. Anytime of advice is welcomed. Thanks!!

Hi Kareenkapoor,

The program at UAB does not allow you to stop with just your RN. You are not awarded a degree after phase 1. You have to continue on and get your MSN. There are many options including health education and that would be a waste of time. If you are interested in obtaining your CRNP then this program is the way to go. It is very intensive but after 1 year you are licensed and you go to work while you work on your masters. There are many people who already have masters in the current cohort and have in the previous ones also. I would recommend that you shadow a nurse, shadow a NP, shadow a nurse educator and see if this is remotely what you want to do. Several people quit 8 weeks to a semester in and they are out $8000 for tuition.

If you have an ADN already..they do award a BSN if you have completed the hours and It takes a little longer to get you MSN. You still have to complete all those prereq's, along with the other. The AMNP is very fast paced, so fast, they do not recommend that you work,
