UA MEPN 2016

Published

Hello! Just wanted to see if anyone else is applying to the University of Arizona MEPN program for summer 2016. I just applied a week or so ago and it's going to be a long wait!

congrats you got in! i got into phoenix too. it only says "provisional" in case you don't submit everything by the deadline, then you'll be dropped

Yes, they're calling it an "alternate list" rather than a "waitlist." Good luck!

Good to know. Was curious because some schools run both alternate and wait lists.

I got accepted to Phoenix even though I specified Tucson preferred on my application. This is disappointing. Those of you that got into Tucson, what did you say on your application? Is there much difference in terms of classes/clinical experiences between the two locations?

Some of the posts that I read online are quite discouraging. Did you guys talk to the current students about their experience with the program? Can anyone offer any insights?

Which posts are discouraging? Can you link to those posts? I got into Tucson and I put Tucson preferred

I read the posts on allnurses - previous cohorts. If you google MEPN Arizona, allnurses, you should be able to find them.

one of the posts shared that some of the courses are online and that teachers read from publisher slides. I hope to have a committed/caring/accessible faculty and i wonder if the UA experience will offer that. Do you have any information about the program?

I jaha information from someone who graduated last summer and had a great experience. I guess it depends on the person and their perspective.

An old classmate who graduated from the Phoenix campus in 2014 said they had some problems with technology, specifically "skyping in" to classes in Tucson. Clinical experiences were great, though! And knowing the UA they probably worked to address any tech issues pretty quickly!

Thank you so much for the info efz37. I'm glad to hear that the clinical experiences were great. So Phoenix cohort attends the courses by skype. Wow. I wonder if students are able to ask questions. I was really hoping for a regular classroom experience. Thanks again for sharing this.

So, I still haven't heard anything. I am assuming that means I'm not in, as they likely sent a batch email for acceptance/wait listed. Has anyone received an e-mail for denial of acceptance? My interview went really well, looks like my grades couldn't do it for me?

Hi kflo55:

I would send an email on Monday to the admissions office to double check that they didn't have a technical error, but if you are not accepted do not lose hope. I was not accepted last year after feeling like the interview went really well. Unfortunately there is such a large weight given to your GPA that it really is hard to overcome if yours is in the low 3 area. Last year my prereq GPA was 3.1, last 60 units was 3.3. I had 3 Cs on my transcripts, and those are hard to overcome. In the last year I replaced the 3 Cs, so my prereq GPA jumped to 3.6, last 60 units 3.7 and I was admitted this time around.

I was an undergrad almost a decade ago and did poorly, but now I'm at a different point in my life that I was able to turn around academically. If it turns out that you were not accepted, I would encourage you to speak to an admissions councilor at UofA. They were helpful and supportive of me last year. If you can commit to taking classes (online, pima community college, etc) to bring the GPA up than know that it is possible. Good luck!

I put Tucson Only on my application. My partner is at the base, so I really couldn't move up there and I'm not commuting.

Thanks for sharing this Crimsonstarr. Congratulations on getting in!
