U of Pheonx Online?

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Anyone have any experience with them? I'm looking at the MSN online. Or if you have any experience with any other distance or online programs I'd love to hear from you:)

The problem with those schools wasn't just people getting in that shouldn't, it was that prospective students were being lied to. Basically they were told the number of students passing was much higher than the reality and that job prospects were much better than they really were. The schools were just concerned about getting that tuition money and the admissions officers were acting like used car salesmen. U of P was mentionned along with several other private for profit schools, though nothing about the MSN in particular. The U of P people were very fast to call me and pretty pushy about it, but it does seem as though their nursing degrees are well accepted.

Does anyone know if they allow one to take breaks between classes or must a class be taken every term? The advisor was somewhat vague when asked this question.

Thank you!

I'm an instructor for the on-line BSN program and I've had students who have taken breaks between classes without problems. :)

Thanks for the reply! Is one able to take frequent breaks or is the expectation that one will take a class every 6 weeks? I know people completing their BSN at a UOP campus and they basically must take a class due to the group starting and staying together. Is that the same for the on-line program? I just want flexibility :)

Thank you!

I am currently a stndent with UoP and really like it. I am finishing up by 4th class with them for my BSN and then I couldn't start my next class because of my wedding next Saturday so They just pushed me back another week and I will start back after the honeymoon and a little more. You can take up to 28 days between classes if need be. It is nice!!

Thanks for the reply! Other than skipping for your wedding (Congratulations!) are you always with the same group of students? Could you skip 28 days at other points throughout the year?

I have not been in the same group of students because I have done some jumping around with my classes to facilitate my need. Some students say they are in the same classes. I won't be in the same class with some of my classmates because I am skipping to get married. Yes, from my understanding, you can skip up to 28 days in between each class. But if you don't check into your class for 2 weeks, then you are withdrawn from the class. Makes sense because the classes are only 5 weeks long.

Hope this helps.

For the online programs, you don't stay with a certain group of students unless you want to. I did the BSN and MSN and did it in 2 1/2 years - I doubled classes and skipped breaks because I had a goal in mind. It is possible (not too much fun though).

Wow! Very impressive!

Ok, now I have a question. I am pre-nursing, so I am not even close to this, but my ultimate goal is to become a NNP. So forgive me if this sounds like a stupid question, I haven't had much experience with the MSN research yet. (I did take a yrs worth of core classes through UoP though and loved them! Would like to go back for my BSN and MSN once I receive my ADN.) What if you want to specialize? Do you need to go through a different school or will the MSN from UoP allow you to specialize? Does anybody know how this works? For example, would I be able to receive the MSN through UoP and then become a NNP (or would someone be able to become a FNP), or is that out of the question? Thanks in advance everybody!

Sorry, but you can not obtain an MSN from UOP and specialize. They do offer a FNP program at times, but no other specialty is offered at this time. Otherwise I would have stayed with UOP since I want to obtain my MSN and become a NNP. I did my BSN through UOP and absolutely loved it.

Thanks! That's exactly what I needed to know! I am a plan-aheader. So, I suppose I will plan for the ADN - BSN through UoP and then find a NNP program that I know will allow me to specialize. I was kind-of doubting it would work through UoP, but was unsure. Anyway, thanks again! I have a lot of years ahead of me before I get that far anyway - but, in the mean time, I will be researching my options. ;)
