U of Calgary Degree holder route Winter 2014

World Canada CA Programs

Published

Just wondering if anyone else also applied for the winter 2014 admission to UofCalgary? I am just a little bit scared of not being able to get in, because my first degree was taken on a really part time basis (over 6 years, including a 1.5 year break). And my CGPA was really low (About 2.7). However, after taking another full course at UofT and taking the physiology/anatomy requirement online at Athabasca university, my transfer GPA over the last 5 full courses/10 half courses is about 3.59. So theoretically, I think I should be able to get in. However, i'm wondering if anyone knows how schools look at people who take a really long time to finish undergrad (with a really average GPA) and whether this will affect their chances of admission?...

Any information would be greatly appreciated

Thanks so much to all!

Has anyone called recently for the GPA cut-off?

Yes I did get the registration package, and also just got an email about the orientation so I am feeling a bit better about it now hah. Thanks for the info about the books! I will definitely go look on their site :)

Hi Guys well it was good to see all of you guys comments here

I came from Toronto and I got into U of C Degree holder program starting this Jan 8th. 2014

The one thing I notice that was...I went to York University in Kinesiology program our B and B+ range was

B is 70-74.9 and B+ was 75 to 75.9 and I have read one of the course outlines from U OF C the way their grading system was...different

I mean U of C, the B stand for b/w 78-84 and B+ 84 to 87 and A- was 88 to 92...

Even just to gradaute from Kinesiology was tough and also maintaining my A- average was also super hard...

but it was really surprise to see that 78-84 is only considered as "B" because that would be considered as an "A" in York university...

any thoughs on this? and I will see you guys soon!

by the way degree holder cut off GPA was 3.5/4 for U of C this year

I got this information from the admissions office from U of C

Hi

I am interested in entering to UofC as a degree holder for the next coming admission.I'm new to Calgary, and just improving my English skills to take an IELTS exam. Meanwhile I want to prepare and translate required documents.

I'm wondering if is it necessary to send original translated documents or copies of them are acceptable?

Is it required to be sent from the original institute?

I graduated almost 10 years ago. Will they evaluate my degree?

thanks.

I am thinking of applying for 2015 entry from BC. Can anyone tell me how much you pay for the tuition and for living expenses? I have never been to Calgary before and would love to hear from those who are already in the program! Also, does anyone considered U of Alberta as well? Thanks in advance=)

To those who did get accepted into the January 2014 program, do you have any advice for those applying for Jan 2015? Impressions on the program, application process, etc..

Hi Netree, the tuition has been about $3200 a semester and books about $500 a semester. I live at home with my parents so my living expenses are quite low. I applied to the U of A degree holder program and got accepted as well. But from my personal experience I like Calgary as a city way better so thats why I chose U of C.

Hi fingers_crossed

My one piece of advice when you apply would be to constantly call and check up on your application status as the admissions office seems to be a little slow. My classmates found this out as well. First semester of the program was community health and now we have moved on to family health. I'm really enjoying the program so far. They really ease you into things!

Thanks Lyssa0301! It is great that the program is a good fit for you! When do/did you start your clinical? Did you have heath care related exerince before?

In the first term we had a community placement. My placement was mostly research based with very little interaction with the community however others had different experiences. This semester we are mostly placed in mental health or supportive living facilities so it is more of a hands-on practical role.

I didn't have any healthcare related experience prior to coming into the program but a lot of my classmates have.

could you help me please???

I got 6.5 in ielts exam in all areas. do you know they are strict regarding it? My GPA is 3.7 and the only problem I have is my English score because I am new to canada. Is there any chance to get admission or I have to wait to get upper score?
