U of Calgary Degree holder route Winter 2014

Published

Just wondering if anyone else also applied for the winter 2014 admission to UofCalgary? I am just a little bit scared of not being able to get in, because my first degree was taken on a really part time basis (over 6 years, including a 1.5 year break). And my CGPA was really low (About 2.7). However, after taking another full course at UofT and taking the physiology/anatomy requirement online at Athabasca university, my transfer GPA over the last 5 full courses/10 half courses is about 3.59. So theoretically, I think I should be able to get in. However, i'm wondering if anyone knows how schools look at people who take a really long time to finish undergrad (with a really average GPA) and whether this will affect their chances of admission?...

Any information would be greatly appreciated

Thanks so much to all!

Hey ssr87, I recently received my package from the faculty of nursing with all the forms, checklists, instructions, etc., so I'm sure you should be getting yours, if you haven't already.

hello! i was admitted to the degree holder route today!

also, does anyone know the start date, and or fees for the program?

Hey Jacsmack,

Congrats! If you log onto your student centre and register for the courses that we are required to take it will tell you how much your tuition will be...if I remember correctly it is somewhere around $3157 (this price excludes the CPR class, N95 mask, id badge, police check, and text books).

Thanks aelle, received my package last week.

I was wondering if most people are planning on having a car. I'm moving to calgary from Vancouver and I'm not sure if I should keep my car or sell it. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks! :)

If we have to do clinical placements your car might be useful to have. I just moved here in May and I don't know what I would do without my car. The transit system works if you're downtown but the hospitals are super spread out.

On a different note - has anyone been rejected? I'm still waiting to hear.

Hey coagulationcascade,

I have also applied for Winter '14 program and I'm also waiting to hear..

Hopefully we will hear from the Nursing Dept soon : )

I am not bringing a car... i hope that is not a mistake . Also.. if you haven't heard, you should call them and check in. That is what i did, and now i am admitted :)

congratz jacsmack.

I called more than a week ago and they said that they are still admitting people with a gpa of 3.5 and over, Is this the case with your gpa? I'm tempted to call again, but I guess I can wait another week.

There is lots of time left! I am sure you will hear soon :)

Is anyone having trouble finding a place to live?

Hi everyone,

I have also applied for January and am still waiting to here. It was calming finding this forum and seeing that other people are still awaiting a decision.

Also I would recommend having a car, I find the transit system to be a little frustrating to use, but I do live in the deep south of the city.

I'm also moving from vancouver. Since I don't know the city that well at all, I decided to apply for residence.

does anyone know if we have to pay a deposit by a certain date? I am nervous because i have not heard anything about that, and i don't want to lose my spot!
