Hi all! Just like to meet all the potential applicants here. Have you applied already?

Hi, Bassem.are you in degree-route or transfer route? When did you send your last transcript? Thanks

Degree holder. August 30

Congratulations on everyone who got in! I entered the program in Jan 2017 as a degree holder so I'm almost 1 year in. If I can help answer any questions, let me know!

Want to ask you if we start clinical in the first semester? if yes, is it in a long-term care??

It's mainly for group work on campus and for taking online exams. In term 3 there is a high possibility that you'll meet with your group (including instructor) during clinical hours and work on your community report together. Many groups do this through google drive or something similar.

In Nurs 285 and Nurs 288 there were in-class online exams, and you'll need a computer for that. There will also be similar exams in future terms. Unfortunately you will not be allowed to have your cell phone out during those exams.

I honestly was not planning on buying a laptop for school.... but my instructor said on the first day that it will be required. I encourage you to confirm with your instructor during orientation whether you need a laptop. As a last resort, the school does lend out laptops for exams, but it's not always convenient to get them. I bought a simple $250 machine just for word processing and internet access and it's served me very well so far.

I wonder if there's a way to merge the two U of C posts we have going haha... @moderators?

@Bassem, yes you start clinical in the first semester (term 3). It is a community placement, not long term care. Long term care will start in May for you guys (term 4).

Community placements will involve going into an assigned community and analyzing the strengths, needs etc. of the community. For example, doing an analysis on food security in Calgary's Chinatown, discussing how it affects the health of the population there, and planning appropriate interventions. Every project will be different... and students will be guiding the projects :)

Hi. Kenobi

Could you tell us what textbooks do we need to buy? Thanks

Let me preface this by saying that it depends on your study style. If you find that you NEED a PHYSICAL book to study from and do well in school, then you'd want to pick up the books for NURS 285, 287, and 288.

However, my honest opinion is that you don't need to buy any of the books, especially not the community nursing books as you will never open them again beyond term 3. In addition, the books were not helpful and did not contribute to my learning. Most of the books also have online/pdf versions you can find for free. The only book I might recommend is Kozier: Fundamentals Of Canadian Nursing Concepts Process And Practices as you will keep using that one for future terms.

Specializes in NICU, PICU, PCVICU and peds oncology.

The two threads have been merged into this one.

Does anyone know how to see how many remaining seats are available for the transfer route?

I don't know i am in the same boat as you, just waiting.

Can i ask when you submitted your application, transcripts and gpa?

hey for the transfer people: I went into the department today and the senior admission officer told me that there are 30 spots availible for winter semester; 5 acceptances have been given out therefore only 25 spots left. there were 125 applicants and they have yet to comb through all applications to gather gpas, they told me that everything should be figured out by late october and to look for acceptance then

Hey everyone! I have recently accepted my offer of admission, and will be joining the 2018 class - I am looking forward to meeting you all! I just requested to be a part of the Facebook page that was created, thanks for making that! I am excited to start this journey with you all.
