TX BSN graduate moving to GA

Published

Hey everyone,

So I graduate in June 2018 with my BSN and plan to move to GA after I know I passed the NCLEX. What is the process for applying for GA licensure? Do I just call the GA BON and be like, "hey I need a GA license?". Sorry I'm just a bit confused.

Do you have any intention of working in TX? If not, then skip getting a TX license at all. Go to the GA BON website and look for the application for licensure by examination. If you will be working in TX, then you'll need the TX license and then you would apply for licensure in GA by endorsement. Both of these processes should be explained on the GA BON website.

You will find the appropriate documents under "application/form downloads" here: Nursing - Georgia Board of Nursing

I don't plan on working in TX. Could I apply for the GA licensure by examination even though I attended a nursing program in TX? Sorry for the questions, but I couldn't find what I was looking for on the GA BON site. I'm not being lazy jumping straight here, it was just so overwhelming on the site, I wanted to make sure I understood. Thanks.

When you receive your authorization to test, you'll simply click the dropdown arrow until you reach the desired state in which you wish to test. Choose Georgia and proceed to register for the NCLEX.

Before then, however, you will have to apply, have your official transcripts sent to the GA BON, submit to fingerprinting for the background check and pay any applicable fees. Once they review your transcripts, they will email you any concerns or issues such as a difference in Texas clinical hours if those hours are less than what Georgia requires. In a case such as this, you may be required to make up the difference by doing a few preceptorship hours. (This is only an example, not a cause for concern).

To get the exact information that you need, you will need to create a free account (username and ID) by going through the APPLICATION and FORMS link, and then logging in, since the application is online. You should find an application checklist once you've logged on.

You will be assigned to a licensing analyst once you've graduated and paid the application fees, who will then be in contact with you initially by email, which will/should include a phone number for contact as well.

For now, log on after creating the account and have a look around to determine what you can expect to need when the time comes.
