TWU Spring 2021 Applicants

Published

Hello everyone,

Are you applying to Houston, Dallas traditional, or Dallas N&W? I am applying to TWU Dallas traditional in August for Spring 2021. Right now I am finishing up some nursing core classes and I plan on taking the TEAS over the Summer if corona virus allows it. I also have TWU preference points that helped my admission score a lot.

What is your admission score? As of Spring 2020 admissions, to calculate your admission score, you can use the Google spread sheet. Download the file to put in your classes and grades.

https://docs.Google.com/spreadsheets/d/1HbY2cEa3zGJyrFW5pKvC-CI8AqQqve9drQlHZhzz11c/edit?usp=sharing

My advisor said that the competitive range is between 50 and 55 for Dallas traditional.

For the TEAS report can we submit the pdf 3 page free report or do we have to submit the one you have to purchase and send to the school?

It's the 3-page PDF. The first page is a graph with blue and red colored bars showing your scores and your percentiles. The second page is the list of TEAS-tested topics you have to work on to become proficient, and the third page is directions about how to interpret the scores.

I called today to ask if scores needed to be sent from ATI or just uploaded into NursingCAS and she wasn't sure but she suggested I do both just in case. It's roughly $20ish dollars per school you send it to.

I was wondering what they meant by the 3 page test too. I got a print out that's three pages from my testing site but I am not sure if that's what they mean

It's a three page score report where the first page is color and the other two pages are black and white. The first page has your scores with the blue and red bar graphs showing percentiles for each section and overall, the second page has the content areas you have to work on to become proficient, and the third page is instructions on how to interpret your scores.

Now that my TEAS is finally done, I'm going to list out all my stats here. I'm applying for the Spring 2021 Houston cohort.

I have a BS in Biology from the University of Houston and an MBA from the University of Houston - Victoria. My graduate degree is not factoring at all into my admissions score. I took Lifespan and A&P 2 (I was only missing the lab but had to take both) at Lone Star College over the Summer.

Nursing Core GPA: 3.48

Pre-Requisite GPA: 3.53

Prior Bachelor's Bump

TEAS Reading: 80.9% (nerves)

TEAS Math: 96.9%

TEAS Science: 91.5%

TEAS Writing: 100%

Total Admissions Score: 55.37

I mainly used Prenursing Smarter ($100 for 3 months) and Mometrix University (the book is just printed online and made into a course format + 8 practice exams + flashcards, $69.99/month). I really only got through the reading and writing section, which needed the most review because it's been so long since I've taken a formal reading or writing class and had to think about author's intent and point of view. If you're not great at standardized testing (using process of elimination, time-savings strategies), you should 1000000% go with Prenursing Smarter. These tips and tricks aren't taught in Mometrix - Mometrix is better for content.

I used the Kaplan ATI TEAS QBank ($39 for 1 month) to prep for the science section, and found it to be right on par with the types of questions the test asked and helped me cram in a short period of time. I needed the most review for general Chemistry and biology and A&P 1.

I'm happy to answer questions about any of the materials I used!

Hi guys! I’m applying to the Houston program. I have a 3.8 Nursing GPA and a 3.7 Core GPA. I got a 83.3% on my TEAS bringing my admission score to a 41. Should I even bother applying?

Hi Jaime!

It never hurts to try. From reading previous threads, admissions scores in the low 40s are occasionally offered admissions to Houston program. Given that they’ve extended the deadline to August 20th, do you have time to prepare for a TEAS retake? That will likely boost your score.

Hi everyone! I’m applying for Houston Spring 2021.

Pre-req GPA: 3.69

nursing core GPA: 3.48

TEAS: 84.7%

Reading: 85.1

I am retaking my TEAS this weekend so hoping to bump my score up a bit.

Just submitted my application! I read in the details on the TWU-specific portion of the application that the application has to be verified before the deadline (not just submitted), and I need to finish up the Professional Transcript Entry so hopefully I'll have everything done by the deadline. Fingers crossed for everyone in this thread! I look forward to checking back in in October when they start announcing decisions.

I already took it twice, got a 80% my first try and I studied really hard to try to boost that but I was disappointed ? If I don't get in I will probably use your advice when applying again and use Prenursing Smarter because I don't think my issue was content. I think struggled more with reading questions properly and time-saving.

Hey! My admission score is a sad 37.9. I am retaking the TEAS this weekend so hoping I can bump that a little more. My score isn’t the highest but I will still apply and hope for the best.. my GPA is still well above the minimum required and hoping I can get my TEAS into the competitive range.
You should definitely apply too! Don’t give up!

Good luck on your TEAS! I am retaking mine as well I did not do well at all on the first try. Fingers crossed we'll do good!

Hi Jaime! I'm sorry that happened ? I would really recommend checking out Prenursing Smarter if your issues were with reading the questions properly and working under the time crunch. She focuses a lot on content, but also equally gives time to strategy. There's no strategy at all in the Mometrix ATI TEAS Secret book/course.

Does anyone know if the apps HAVE to be verified as well by the due date. Will they still consider you? I know NursingCAS said it might take a while.

You don’t need to be verified before the due date for TWU

the only school I know that does that is Sam Houston
