TWU Spring 2021 Applicants

Nursing Students School Programs

Hello everyone,

Are you applying to Houston, Dallas traditional, or Dallas N&W? I am applying to TWU Dallas traditional in August for Spring 2021. Right now I am finishing up some nursing core classes and I plan on taking the TEAS over the Summer if corona virus allows it. I also have TWU preference points that helped my admission score a lot.

What is your admission score? As of Spring 2020 admissions, to calculate your admission score, you can use the Google spread sheet. Download the file to put in your classes and grades.

My advisor said that the competitive range is between 50 and 55 for Dallas traditional.

Does TWU count A- as 3.7 or 4?

Additionally, if I took multiple Chemistry classes, can I choose which one is counted?

An “A-“ is considered an “A”, therefore, it would be worth 4. There is a grade key on the excel worksheet that explains what each letter grade is worth in terms of calculating GPA.

An academic advisor would be more suitable in answering your second question, as I’m not too sure on that. I would like to say that they would take your most recent grade earned, but not sure. Are you currently a TWU student?

Specializes in BSN Student.

Hey all! I just got off the phone with a TWU advisor who was helping me out with questions about the Houston program.

Regarding GPA, while the worksheet has you use whole grades, NursingCAS does show them +/-. Scores above 40 are still competitive for the traditional program in Houston.

You can choose which Chemistry is counted was my takeaway from meeting with the advisor, but don’t quote me on that!

So even if NursingCAS shows them as +/-, they are still counted as the whole grade points right?

And awesome! I was a science major so I took several different Chemistry courses and want to be able to include my best grade

Hello! I applied for UTMB and when my application was submitted Nursing CAS will calculate an average GPA with all the classes you entered from your transcripts. I am unsure if TWU is the same but there is a section on pt 4 where you choose the classes for your pre requisite courses. I am unsure if they use the classes you chose to calculate the GPA on their own or if they use the GPA from Nursing CAS. Not sure if this helps or answers your question.

Hmm so basically I have an A- in stats which my previous school counted as a 3.7 in my GPA calculation. And I am just wondering if NursingCAS/TWU calculates A- as 3.7 or 4?

I believe nursing CAs calculates it differently than TWU because I believe TWU counts As as 4 Pts. I would contact TWU and ask if they use Nursing CAS GPA. I want to say they calculate their own.

TWU calculates your GPA based on how the excel worksheet is set up and calculated, not how NursingCAS calculates it. That’s the whole point of the worksheet and why it is offered to students in determining what their admission scores are. Keep in mind, the ADMISSION SCORE is what they mainly look at in the selection process into the nursing program. Previous semester threads have stipulated this.

Got it! My admission score should be 64.73 then ?

+ Does anyone know how this program compares to Texas Tech?

Are preference points being calculated in with getting that admission score? Preference points are additional points towards admission that are awarded to those with prior bachelor’s degrees and/or those who complete at least half of their prerequisite coursework (16+ hours) at TWU. Within the excel worksheet, there is a box where you would enter “yes” or “no” for preference points.

Yup I checked YES for prior bachelor's. and didn't take any pre-reqs at TWU so no points for that.

Awesome! You should definitely not have a problem getting into the Dallas program with a competitive score like that! ?

Do you mind sharing what your TEAS composite score was if already taken, as well as any tips on how you studied for it?
