TWU Spring 2014 Applicants

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey everyone. I just wanted to start a thread for all of those hoping to get into TWU starting Spring 2014. My name is Kia and I have already sent in my application and completed my TEAS V exam. I'll be in the Denton campus patho class this fall (trying to wait patiently for an acceptance letter-GOD willing).

@Janice

How did your TEAS go?

How was the Teas test? I am nervous about the test, can you tell me if there were a lot of chemistry and physics questions? Also, I am concern about the math because I am not that good in word problems. Can you please give me an advice? I do not see that the ATI book is very helpful because it does not explain things in detail.

Hey y'all,

The reading section was actually easier than I thought. Yes, the passages were longer than the ATI book but it was doable. The questions weren't as tricky as the ATI book, or at least i thought the practice tests were somewhat confusing. Since English is my second language, I was very nervous with this section. However, surprisingly I got a 92% in this section! If I can do it, then you can definitely do well! Anyways, if you did well on the ATI book and McGraw Hill 5 practice tests, you should be fine!

Math is my strongest, so I got a 100% on it! This section was very similar to the ATI book and McGraw Hill. There are wording problems in this section, so make sure you know how to solve those types of questions. Make sure you know how to distrubute equations and stuff. Also, make sure you study the roman numerals! There's a reason why McGraw Hill book included those questions in there.

Science was so HARD!! It was literally all over the place. I noticed it was easy to eliminate two choices out of four but very hard to chose from the two remaining choices. All I can say is make sure you know your basic biology and chemistry. I didn't see many questions over anatomy, but make sure you know the function of different body systems. My suggestion is to go over the ATI practice test questions thoroughly. For example, if the question asks you where protein is broken down, make sure you know where carb and lipids are broken down at. Moreover, make sure you know how they are broken down. I hope this makes sense to you guys. The point is... just go over the whole ATI book and be prepared to answer all types of questions. Don't forget to study mitosis and meiosis. You know this is important!

Lastly, english section was also very similar to the practice tests. Spelling is probably going to be easy for you guys, so you guys are good to go! Also, practice on figuring out what a word means. You know those questions where you have to guess what a word means? Please expect those questions on the test. Make sure you know your subject and verb agreement. Also, make sure you study capitalization rules!

Sorry if I'm all over the place. I was scared to share the questions since it's against the rules. I don't want to get in trouble. I hope this helps. PM me if you have any questions!!

I understand... Thank you for sharing. I am nervous about this test is too broad and I do not know how to study for it. I am very concern about the word problems in math because I am not very good in solving those type of problems. I have the ATI book and the Secrets for the teas, do you think is good idea to buy the McGraw hill 5 practice? and did you buy the practice test online? because its getting expensive buying all these books, the practice test, and top of the test that cost like $110. Congratulations for your scores... How did you prepare for the test?

Hey guys, I'm Sarah! So I'm thinking of sending in my common app. in soon for twu for the spring. My TEAS scores are NOWHERE near y'all scores. I got a 76%. But I took it last year and I'm debating on whether I should take it again? Ideas? Also, for you have to take patho at their campus? Like, is that a prereq? I took a patho class at San jac. Just some feedback would be great. xx

Hey! I am also applying for TWU dallas in the spring of 2014. I am currently looking for potential roommates, for the fall or spring. I am in the area but I will not have a place to live. Does anyone know of a good website or a way TWU could hook me up with other nursing students?

Hello Smak,

Same as you, I was DEVASTED with my TEAS score. I am thinking to retake it just in case. Also preparing for the Hesi2 for UT nursing at the same time. I looked over some old posts from previous admissions, 2012 spring and fall, it seems like they are not only looking at your TEAS but also other preferences. Some people get in with low 70s and some don't get in with high 90s...

Ahhh thanks! This is insane though. Hey! Do you know which section we apply to for the HESI? Like there were all of these choices for different kinds of tests. I THINK for the HESI we pick "RN Admission Assessment with Critical thinking Version 1??" Anybody know for Sure? Don't wanna sign you for the wrong thing!

You need to take all the sections, but that does not include chemistry and physics. If you want to apply Praire View, you do not need the vocabulary section that is the tricky one. Let me tell you something, if you are applying for UT get a good score on the Hesi to get in. They look 50% your GPA that it has to be like 3.8, and 50% Hesi around the 90%. Good Luck, this is getting so competitive each year. However, the Hesi is much easier than the Teas, unfortunately my score was too low.

Yeah, I'm applying to UT Houston, Prairie View, Sam Houston State, TWU, And Utmb. I mean, I HAVE to get in somewhere. I got waitlisted at Utmb for this fall and if by some miracle I get accepted, then I guess worrying over the HESI will be for nothing (:

Hello smak1013,

Wow, I applied for UT last semester, but I got rejected because my hesi scores. PV put me on the waiting list last semester because I was still taking two classes. I went to PV today, and took all my papers, but they told me that we need three letters of recommendation and I just took two. Sam Houston, I do know because I did not see them in the Texas Board list. I believe they are going to be accreditated in this year(check one more time their program);however I think it will be easy to get in there because their program is new. I am crossing my fingers to PV because I want to finish my stress over this. For TWU I need to take the TEAS, but to be sincere, that test seems impossible, my Hesi scores were not that good and its an easier test, so imagine the TEAS I dont know if I will pass it. They said that is easier to get in UTMB, but it is to far for me and also I have a family. Can you give me some advice for the TEAS? I really want to pass it...Thank you

Hello Moneca,

May I ask what did you get on your Hesi A2? I am preparing for that test atm.. and I was told by advisor to aim for 80.. I am not sure if 90 is possible for me since my reading comprehension is not so great.. also, I did hear from other people saying that vocabulary section on Hesi is challenging, but I thought they have all the vocabulary in the review section? I do agree that UTMB seems easier to get into.. I read many forums and seem like their requirements are less specific compares to TWU. TWU look at preferences grades and test scores. And many students didn't make to TWU end up at UTMB. My advice for TEAS is you definitely have to study beyond to what's in the book. To me I feel like the book is only a general description of everything, and I had to go into dept. with every subject(especially science). I am not a native speaker so reading was tough for me because I ran out of time at the end.. Science I felt like I studied good but end up with a 66! the math and grammar section, just look at their guide, I think it covers pretty much everything you need to know. I made 85 on those sections.. I looked at both Hesi and Teas study guide, Hesi is definitely easier.. Teas questions can throw you off sometimes, so read CAREFULY. Let me know if you have other questions, I am happy to help :)
