TWU Nursing Applicants - Fall 2019

Published

Just about a year early here, but I wanted to create a thread for Fall 2019 applicants. This is my first time joining a nursing forum; so, let's give it a shot.

One more question! Is anyone currently taking patho online this summer? I've heard recommendations to take patho before the semester you are accepted into the nursing program, but I noticed the profs don't have alot of reviews on rate my professor. Any word of advice on whether to take it online or just wait to take it in person when the semester starts would be greatly appreciated! If it matters, the online prof is D. Teenakoon.

A lot of us are taking her in the fall. She newer to TWU and I think that’s why she doesn’t have a lot of ratings. I had planned to take patho in the summer, but decided not to bc I didn’t want to pay for it out of pocket. If you are taking less than 6 hours in the summer then you don’t get financial aid.

I am taking it online but with a different professor. I just wanted to get it knocked out early so that I have one less class to stress over in the fall. My financial aid is always loans anyway, so I decided to just take it and pay out of pocket. Less loans is always better. So far, I have no regrets. The class is intense and I can't imagine having it with the other 3 hard classes we have to take in the fall. Again, trying to lower my stress levels as much as possible. Hope this helps!

Thank you! I know summer is usually 10 weeks, do you think you would have found the class to be a tad less instense if you had the extra 6 weeks in the fall semester? I am very familiar with and accustomed to online courses, I have no problems with self guided study and prioritizing my time for online courses, my only reservation is the content of the course. Wasn't sure if it was better suited for in class instruction versus online. I took both AP lectures online so I feel like this should be fine, especially with it being my only class for the fall semester, but TWUs grade policy about not getting Cs spooked me ?

Honestly, I don't think 6 more weeks or class instruction would make that much of a difference. Patho is hard no matter what format you take it in. "Hard" as in time consuming not necessarily the actual content. Summers, I typically have less going on so I can focus more time into it. You might not be able to do that if you are balancing 3 other classes. Of course, this is strictly my opinion and my experience. I enjoy online classes more in general too. Plenty of people take Patho in the Fall with their other classes and are perfectly fine. Just do what works for you. Failing is below 72, btw. You have a little bit of leeway. I just figure that you have to take the class anyway, why not get it done earlier and in a shorter time? That was my logic.

Thank you! Your logic makes perfect sense. If I opt to take patho online in the Fall, it would be the only class I am taking until the Spring when upper nurse courses start. I was worried more about the content being too complex for an online course, but if TWU offers it online, then they must have faith that those who are familiar and comfortable with online courses are able to take the course successfully. I think my anxiety just needed a little reassurance about the course content. Thank you for all of your help!

Side note about below 72 being failing, is a 71 a "C" and above that is a B? I'm sure they'll go over all this with the spring 2020 cohort but it is interesting info to know going into the application proces.

Hey everyone!!

I was enrolled in the NW 2019 program but decided not to pursue it. If anyone needs any uniforms or lab coats, please email me at [email protected]. The uniforms still have tags on them, AND as a bonus the patches are also already on them so no need to buy them separately. I didn't get a chance to wear them ? If you or anyone you know could use them, email me! The uniform size is XS, but they run REALLY big in case you haven't tried them on. So if you normally wear a small or a medium, they will still fit you ?

Thanks!

Hi all,

Congrats to all they were accepted into Fall 2019 nursing class. I have went through countless post in this thread but I can't seem to find the Stats/averages for TWU Fall 2019 acceptance scores. Can anyone re-post please if they seen them.

Hi there! The school didn’t release them for our cohort. Your best bet is to look at the stats for the people in the program you are going to apply for. Before I applied, I looked at the stats for those that did and did not get in to the N&W program. Hope that helps!

Hello NJ28

How can you look at the stats of the people in the program ?

You have to go back through this thread and look at the individual posts.
