I could not for the life of me find a thread for people who were going to be going to Houston in the fall, so here we go.
I was going out for the fast track 2009 in Dallas, got denied and put back in the fall applicant pool, then BAM:D, got hit with the shocker last night when I got home from work that I had been accepted to the regular BSN program in Houston.
I'm really excited to start a new chapter and I thought this would be a good way to meet other members of the class before we get there. So shout out where you're from and your background so we can all get to know each other before August!
(P.S.- I've also been accepted to the community college in my hometown, which is closer, cheaper, and probably going to be easier, but I think it would be borderline offensive to turn down such an awesome offer, let me know what you think)
Hey guys!! I just found this thread! Everyone seem excited to start at TWU!!! :)
I was reading the posts about apartment hunting and have a few suggestions for y'all!
First, my aunt used to work at Texas Children's and lived in the Medical Center area. She strongly suggested to look elsewhere. It's very expensive and most places have frequent car breakins and other bulgaries at night...even in the gated apartments.
Y'all may want to look at surrounding areas like Pearland (that's where she lives now and it's not far from TWU AT ALL, only like 10 minutes), Friendswood, Webster, or Clearlake. These areas have much safer communities and much cheaper rent, even at luxury apartments!!! :)
I know living close is appealing, but consider these other areas too! If people room together and carpool you'll save gas too! In these areas with roommates you can pay from $450-550 a month with utilities! So, you'll definitely come out on top!
Let me know if y'all want some more info, a lot of my family lives in the surrounding areas and commute into that area! Good luck to all!
hi guys! hi coco!
so some one from apartment wiz called me today, and i told him about a couple of apts and he will look into them as far as deals.. but one thing he said is dont trust online ratings. now as far as living away from med center.. i know its more of a cost the closer you get to medcenter, and i mean i live in sugar land thats 20 mins away, but drivin during morning hours will add it up to 1-2 hour traffic jam. as far as i crime, i think its goin to be everywhere. no matter where we live regardless of the gate and what not. however i do believe is we can take the best precautions for it, like find a gated comm, security guards and an alarm system and just dont keep anything expensive in car! also dont come home too late, and if you do, make sure its with someone else..
the one apt r33sa said looked pretty good.. if you guys have any other apts.. we are all up for checking them out.
ima find out more through the apartmen wiz guy when he calls..
Ok! Just thought I'd put it out there. I talked to my aunt just now and from Pearland, she says it's 30 minutes top even with traffic. It's pretty much a straight shot. If anyone is interested at looking at them with me I found some pretty good ones:

And here is a website that says some of these apartments are PERFECT for commuting to the medical center and downtown.
me, apparently gov't gets stingy with grants when you already have a bachelors? What a rip...
I hope the guys wanna go apt hunting, I hate to put the girls in an awkward position, especially w/o meeting you ladies first. Maybe I'll just do the hunting part with you guys and get an idea of one bedroom apts, I'm not all too opposed to living alone. See ya'll soon!

I think most of you already know this but in case some of you don't know; For the varicella vaccine requirement, it is like you MUST get a titer. You can't just have the vaccines and not the titer. The immunization lady from Denton told me that you must first have a varicella titer and then if you are tested negative, you are required to have the vaccines.
