Hello! Just wanted to start a thread for those applying to the college of Nursing at Texas Woman's University. Who already goes there? What do you have left to take? Are you nervous... etc!
My name is Alli, I will start at TWU, not the nursing program, this summer. Moving to Denton with my husband. I can't wait!
Not sure if you are talking to me Nam, but yes, I took the TEAS V today. It was surprisingly kinda hard. I don't think the ATI study guide prepared me enough for the science portion. The questions were out of left field and I'm worried. I thought the math portion was fairly easy and reading/english portions were pretty straight forward though. They said my scores should be on the ati website tomorrow so I'll be sick to my stomach till then I guess. Wish me luck and if anyone wants to buy my ATI and/or McGraw Hill study guide books I'll be happy to unload them to you!
I took it too, in December (along with the HESI A2 for other schools).
I basically agree with Jodeface....I knew from TWU's website what kind of material was going to be on there, but when I was reviewing I really needed to focus on the science part. ("The SCIENCE portion of the exam covers science reasoning, science knowledge, biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, basic physical principles, and general science.") I'd taken A&P and a general bio class recently, but had to work on on some of the physical sciences, chemistry, etc.
Jodeface---hope it went well! :)
NAM123, if I were you I'd go to atitesting.com and buy one of their online practice tests (not even the study guide necessarily). It's only $35 and is just like the real test, not only to give you an idea of content, but also the same format/layout. So I think it's the best way to prepare yourself and identify the areas you need to focus on. It's what I did, anyway...then I just checked out a couple of nursing exam prep books from the library and did some science/math review from those.
Nice Chaos :) You beat me, argh! Want to share your GPA and first attempt grades? I'm teasing.
Nam, to answer your question, no, I didn't have any questions that required me to have conversion factors memorized, except maybe extremely simple ones. The math was pretty basic just don't forget to know how to multiply and divide fractions.
The science questions bugged me though.
Not a contest, Jodeface, we're all winners! LOL, but seriously---if you have anything above a 90, I think that's really, really solid! And as for my stats, I don't mind sharing...I'll be interested to know what kind of GPA/TEAS combinations get in, because TWU won't give out any info on that.
My prereq GPA is 3.559 according to the worksheet on their website (because of really crappy History/Govt grades during my first degree, otherwise it'd be 4.0! It's amazing how a little screwing around early in college can totally SCREW YOU OVER later on). Made A's on first attempt in Micro and Stats. And I didn't do prereqs at TWU, so no extra bump.
I don't recall the test in much detail, but I remember thinking there were some crazy questions too...science is where I lost points. But I figure that even once we're in nursing school, there are going to be questions out of left field, because they want to see if we can reason through it even if we don't know a ton about the material itself. Probably why the HESI A2 has a whole section on critical thinking.
Based on my score report, I did well on life science and earth/physical science....funny thing is, I lost points in Human Body science and Scientific Reasoning. You'd think after taking A&P twice I'd have done better there.
I'm glad that the TEAS is over with. I just looked at the Fall 2010 thread and it looks like they got their acceptance emails on March 10th for the most part. I hope we get ours that soon.
Things I am thinking about:
It seemed too easy to apply and I hope I've done all that I'm supposed to....I filled out the application online and paid the $30, I took the TEAS V and told ATI to send my results to TWU, I've taken all me pre-reqs except the Computing Course (CSCI 1403) and I start that on Tuesday. I'm also taking Patho starting Tuesday up at the Denton campus. Have I forgotten anything I was supposed to do?? I have an advising appointment on Tuesday so I hope to be put at ease with Mr. Jeff R. answering all my questions.
So many other things to do but not sure if I should start before I know if I'm accepted: Check on all my immunizations and get them caught up per the TWU requirements, drug testing and background check, buy stethoscope, smocks, lab coat, white shoes, etc., get CPR certified, what else?
I'm concerned about not having control over my schedule if I am admitted and start the program. Will we really have 12 hour clinicals or is that just a rumor I heard? Do we have any say where our clinicals take place? Can we tell them our preference? I live in Fort Worth and I'd love to have a clinical over here instead of Dallas but I don't know what the clinical location possibilities are.
Just some thoughts rolling around in my head. Good luck to everyone!
I was also unnerved by how easy the application is! And those are great questions, I'm wondering about the clinicals too. For Dallas I've heard/read that you do get to rank your preferences for location. I'm applying to Houston though, so I wonder if we're mostly in the TMC or have other clinical sites too.
I'd definitely check on your immunizations, especially Hepatitis: the series takes 4-6 months to complete, so if you haven't gotten your first one you'll want to do that ASAP...as well as any others that require multiple doses. I believe the rest of it (drug testing, background) is after acceptance.
