I need to check these out! I am due a trip to Barnes and Noble and a latte!

While out getting books, pick up a copy of "We Band of Angels". It tells about the military nurses that were taken prisioner at the fall of Bataan (Phillipines).

From the back cover:

"As Bataan and Corregidor fell, a few nurses escaped, but most were herded into internment camps enduring three years of fear and starvation. Once liberated, they returned to an America that at first celebrated them, but later refused to honor their leaders with the medals they clearly deserved. Here, in letters, diaries, and firsthand accounts, is the story of what really happened during those dark days, woven together in a compelling saga of women in war."

I read this book after seeing it referenced on the board - GREAT! Highly recommended.

I have read We Band of Angels, it is an excellent book that shows the strength and spirit of nurses and their contributions during WWII. They were one tough bunch of nurses. All of the books by Echo Heron are excellent as well.

I heard the author, Dr. Elizabeth Norman speak: she was incredible, and the book is absolutely awe-inspiring.
