  1. DO YOU AGREE THAT THE NEW TVCC 2013 ADN BROCHURE IS BAD NEWS?

TVCC HAS CHANGED THEIR 2013 BROCHURE ON THEIR WEBSITE THE problem is that the tvcc counselors gave out a list of honors classes for the students to pick from so that they could recieve an extra point AND the problem is that some of those honors classes to pick from on that list are not part of their new 2013 class requirement guidlines and alot of students have already taken those honors classes not required some have gotten lucky and taken the humanities fine arts honors class but some have taken other honors classes not required and are now out of the time and money they spent on that class. THE OTHER PROBLEM is that not every one is interested in getting a bachelors degree alot of people i talk to are interested in obtaining their associates degree in RN. so why penalize the people just wanting an associates by making them take all of those extra classes just for an associates degree not a BSN they should have an option. but i was reading and i noticed that tvcc teamed up with the universities to make the students be forced to take the additional classes towards their bsn so that way the school can get more money from students spending on more classes and books it seems a little crooked if you ask me. it looks like tvcc will now only be enrolling more students interested in a BSN rather than having students interested in a ADN....... or is this just a way to weed out alot of their applicants ?????? makes you say and think HHHHMM ????????

well im not sure if left hand is not talking to right hand over there at tvcc but i have officially confirmed it and was told that yes you will need your 8 pre req. classes but you will also need to complete the 7 additional classes plus complete the rn program before tvcc will allow you to get a associates degree in registered nursing so you might want to check with your boss or the dean of tvcc because you are right the extra classes are towards the bsn curricullum but they are also now going to be a requirement towards ADN over there at tvcc .... thank god so far the other rn programs in the north texas area have not gone to this so far so there is still a chance for adn students to get their adn with out being forced to take the bsn curricullum classes.. sorry buddy but this is not good news for tvcc....... since your a rep for tvcc you should speak up and tell your boss that there should be an option for adn students and a seperate option for bsn students with out forcing the adn students to have to take the extra bsn students classes..... but i understand if you dont speak up cause you dont want to loose your job either but off the record this new plan is major crapola.... just saying.....

I am in the same position as you TEXXAS. I applied last December and did not get accepted and now I have the additional 7 classes to take as well. I was pretty bummed behind it because now i have to take summer l and ll as well as the Fall and have all classes done by December in order to get credit for it. The good thing is that I was going for my BSN anyway and I looked up the partnered schools with TVCC and after you take all those core classes, you can get into the meat of the BSN program in no time. Texas Tech seems to be the best option in my opinion. I feel you on be advised about taking the honors classes and now you don't get a point for them. They should revist that and maybe compensate the students in some way or something. I am in a bad position because I am considered out of district, although I live in Kaufman Co and have lived here for the past seven years, I still have to pay the outrageous out of district fees! If you are going to go to another school, you have to think about that too, are you in district? I don't know how many hours you have taken at Trinity but I know you do get a point if you have taken so many hours at tvcc. I would find out if that is the same for el centro, for example. It doesn't seem right or fair because we are the ones that pay for these classes and this is something that we possibly could have been warned about. I heard nothing of this last year in Decemember. Now I do however see the good and the bad in this. Good luck to you in whichever road you decide to take!

i was told too that you have to take all classed in order to apply to ADN program. That it goes by points system as before and the max is 21 points.

it looks like word is just now starting to get out about tvcc new bad news of forcing their students to take bsn classes to obtain an associates degree in RN. there are alot more students that do not know about this yet we are just the first there will be more students posting there dislikes about this on here as time goes by we are just the first of the storm to come. and i will say those wanting there BSN is fine but please TVCC please seperate the ADN program from the BSN program let those wanting to go for a BSN take all those extra classes at there own will but do not force the other students only wanting there ADN to take the same classes of those wantimg there BSN. I just want my ADN to began with later on if i feel at my own will to get my BSN than i will do so. but i do not want to be forced to take BSN classes only to get my associates degree. thats just not right and one my professors told me that he thinks it is just all a money thing and i totally agree. this is just about TVCC trying to get more money spent on more classes. but they are gonna run students/business off and get less money because they are not the only RN program to apply for in the state. so looks like it is all down hill for TVCC once word gets out about their low consideration for the students and not giving them WARNING about these MAJOR changes then they will be known as the money hungry school not unless they decide to seperate the BSN AN ADN programs or just go back to their old brocure and plans. think about it some people have spent a year even up to 3 years especially people who work or have kids an go to school, trying to get the 8 pre requisites required than only to find out that they are going to need an additional 7 more classes just to obtain an associates degree dude that is terrible. how in considerate of TVCC man if Tvcc keeps it like this their going to get such a bad reputation. just keep periodaclly checking this posting watch there will be more comments of upsett students just word has gotten out much yet but when it does the shhhhhhhhhhh is gonna hit the fan....lol at this point im looking at other ADN programs i think TVCC is crossed off my list not unless they get so many complaints about this an change it back to what it was or seperate the bdn an adn programs. well any way thanks for the encouragement my friend and good luck to you as well in whichever road you decide to take ... Sincerely TEXXAS....

NCTC is also going this route with what they call a1+2+1 BSN with ADN exit option. I think it's a great idea. It cuts down on the course you need to obtain a BSN.

I also found out that El Centro will be doing the same thing. This is a plus for me b/c I had already taken the majority of the BSN courses anyway seeing as how I want to obtain my BSN through UTA.

GREAT for you all that want your BSN but what about the rest of us that only want an ADN to start off with and than at our own will can decide to go back for a BSN.... but not be forced to get our BSN ????? I just want to start off with my ADN because i am not sure if i want to make this my life career so i figured i would start off with an ADN and start working and if i do decide to make this my life career than i would continue on for my BSN but at my own will not being forced by TVCC. so you tell me??? whata about us that just want our ADN. I know it may not matter much to you since your wanting your BSN any way but it sure suxx for those only wanting an ADN to began with. and OMG please do not say that all of DCCCD is going to start this new silly idea like TVCC hopefully just el centro will do this only i hope the other RN programs in north texas do not decide to do this. Does any one know when el centro is going to start doing this new BSN program ?? i have not seen any info. on el centro's web site about this??? but i have seen info on TVCC web site about this.... so when is EL centro going tp do This ??? and is it all of DCCCD? or just el centro ????? omg i hope i can get in a ADN program ASAP before they decide to make this official..

You are not forced to get your BSN you can still end at the ADN. My understanding is the most if not all Texas Public Colleges will be going to this type of program.

yess you are right you can stop at ADN but you are now being forced to take the extra classes towards your BSN even if you just only want your ADN those additional 7 classses use to not be a requirement for your ADN now there shoving those additional 7 classes down your throat weather you want a BSN or not just doesnt seem right. so lil buddy yoor right and your wrong right that you do not need to go on for your BSN but wrong in the sense that you still need to take the 7 additional BSN classes just to obtain an ADN thats wack.

I went to an info session yesterday at El Centro and the nursing admissions counselor informed us of all the changes. She said it's not on their website yet b/c they are still working on the site. The new changes will go into effect for Spring 2013.

wow they really need to start announcing this new info and changes now it is extremely in considerate and just plain rude to just pop up out of no where with all these major changes without even giving students a 2 to 3 year advance notice about this so that they can be better prepared an start taking the additional classes needed and what if they have already almost completed all the classes needed per the old degree plan an are happy that they are almost done just to all of a sudden find out they will need an additional 7 classes to complete their ADN that is a law suit waiting to happen there are RN lawyers down in austin just waiting to jump at the chance of a law suit on this believe me i know i have already started calling and getting my lawyer ready for what is to come. he told me that as far as the law goes they can not change their degree plan without giving an amplr ammount of notice in advance but some RN programs may choose to so any way not knowing that it holds up in court. but once the RN programs start getting sapinas to show up in a austin court house the RN program will need to send Their dean Their lawyer and school rep. to come to court to find out the out come in some case my lawyer informed me that these RN programs settle with a pay out to the student for being mis informed and mis guided. it is real if you do not believe me google RN lawyers in austin texas call them your self and they wil confirm it.

GREAT for you all that want your BSN but what about the rest of us that only want an ADN to start off with and than at our own will can decide to go back for a BSN.... but not be forced to get our BSN ????? I just want to start off with my ADN

The extra classes are nothing more than your basics. Regardless if you get a BA in nursing or any other degree you would still need these courses. If you decide nursing is not for you and you want to do something else your lower level classes are complete. If you look at it from that pov maybe this would be easier to swallow
